Translation for install instructions
Installation (XP)
1) Save to your hard disk, folder "XP PATCH" (if you run from ISO / DVD it does not work)
2) Go to Start and then run.
3) After examining the file "Loader.exe" (located inside the folder "XP PATCH" which should be copied on the hard drive); type path where startup . EXE is on DVD
example
"C: \ XP PATCH \ Loader.exe" "D: \ startup.exe"
(the drive letter may vary depending on each PC)
4) Install the game using the Custom Install option.
5) Install XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi and vcredist.msi in the folder \ redist (located within the ISO / DVD)

BUT for fuk sake ! I was looking forward to this game, BUT WTF? This shit is just the same as the first one. Graphics is AWFUL !! JUST SO FUKING HORRIBLE !! Not even close to high-end games. (such as Assasin Creed or Crysis) AARRGHH !!

Works fine on xp, but I have to say that the game it's pure ratshit.
To install on XP do this:
1. Mount with daemon tools
2. Copy the folder XP PATCH to the C: drive
3. start >run : "C:\XP PATCH\Loader.exe" "F:\startup.exe" where F is the virtual drive mounted by daemon.
4. select optional install, not start the game after finished
5. Copy dwmapi.dll, mf.dll, MFPlat.dll to the directory where HALO 2 is installed, (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2)
6. run the game from "LOADER.EXE" e.g.: "C:\XP PATCH\Loader.exe" "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe"

Okeeey... I skipped the activation part - since none of the keys in the previous comment worked - and started playing... The graphics is like this - try to play a video on 0.75 % speed... Example - everyone remember the scene, where Masterchief is about to jump out of the ship (yes, this is in the first mission) and he looks up, as he´s "riding" the bombs back to the Covenant? I can´t see his face, since all I see, is the start on the sequence, and the begining of the next one! I don´t know if it´s just my computer, but still... And I can´t continue playing, because I have to register the damm thing...!

The game accepted the cd key's posted by Torent_King90210, and the instruction translation by Terbert007 worked fine for my xp installation.
Rather than always issuing the run command
"C: \ XP PATCH \ Loader.exe" "C: \ Program Files \ Microsoft Games \ Halo 2 \ halo2.exe"
every time you want to play the game, you can create a shortcut with that command on your desktop.
After trying to access xbox live with this install, i got a runtime error, have yet to find the solution.

omg i just found out how to do it YES!!
what you have to do is:
- mount the .iso file with daemontools or other emulation software
- go to my computer, right click the mounted drive and press OPEN
- open redists, inside there are two setups, vcredist, and xliveredist, install those
- copy the CRACK folder to your desktop
- in the CRACK folder, open XP PATCH, and
inside that there is a file called Loader
- drag the loader file on the startup.exe in the mounted drive, so you will open startup.exe with loader
- install
- copy the crack

I followed the install instructions exactly as Jannuss indicates and I get an error "The ordinal 100 could not be located in the dynamic link library dwmapi.dll " . If I install another dwmapi.dll file, I get error stating "Initialization Failed. Either Insufficient system resources ... etc "
My PC meets requirements.
I'm going crazy with this... been troubleshooting/researching all day, and no progress.

Ok guys i havent been able to get this to work, but this should atleast point you guys in the right direction. I translated the installation instuctions that were in the crack folder of this game, thanks to Google language tools. I know it isnt perfect and the translation is kinda screwed up but you still can understand it and get the point.
1) Copy to hard disk folder "XP PATCH" (if you run it from the ISO / DVD does not work)
2) Go to Start and then run.
3) After seeking to examine the file "Loader.exe" (located inside the folder "XP PATCH" which should be copied to the hard disk), followed by a continuation of this type the path in the direction where the startup . exe game
Installation (XP)
1) Copy to hard disk folder "XP PATCH" (if you run it from the ISO / DVD does not work)
2) Go to Start and then run.
3) After seeking to examine the file "Loader.exe" (located inside the folder "XP PATCH" which should be copied to the hard disk), followed by a continuation of this type the path in the direction where the startup . exe game

I'm running XP Service Pack 3. I just followed the instruction supplied (thanks to r3dsurf for English instructions) and it is working. I'm currently at level 5.

I used Daemon Tools to mount the image. It successfully mounted the image, though the autoplay showed an error. However, just followed the instructions and it ran successfully.
I'm posting simplified instructions for working this out:
1) Mount (or burn) the ISO.
2) Copy the folder "XP PATCH" from the DVD to any place in your Hard Disk (Say D:)
3) Go to Start>Run. (or use Win key + R)
4) Type the following (assuming E: is your DVD drive and D: contains "XP PATCH" folder)
"D:\XP PATCH\Loader.exe" "E:\startup.exe"
As mentioned, here
D:\XP PATCH\Loader.exe: Path where the "Loader.exe" exists
E:\startup.exe : Path where the startup of the game exists
5) Install the game using the Custom Install option.
6) Install XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi and vcredist.msi from the "redist" directory (located within the DVD)

I got rid of the game 20 minutes after playing. Never understood why everyone likes Halo. Anyways thanks avseq for the guide and here is a tip to make running the game easier so you don't have to open up the run window and use type in the directories.
Open up notepad, type in the two directories exactly like avseq said.
Here is what mine looks like.
"D:\Halo\XP PATCH\Loader.exe" "D:\Halo\Halo\halo2.exe"
That should be all one line. Save it anywhere you want with any name but change the file extension to .bat. Save it and then all you have to do is click that file to run the game.

Activation fix for those of you who want to play level 2 and onward.

Readme is pretty self explanatory: You have 2 MF.dll files, a 4 byte and a 32 byte. The 4 byte goes in your "...\Halo 2", and the 32 byte goes in your "...\Windows\System 32".
I can confirm that the fix in the link above works.
I think I saw 2 mf.dll files in the "...\Crack" file for this torrent, that were the same sizes, so if you don't want another dl, look at their sizes and try that.

Works beautifully on XP.
It was a bit laggy at first but updating my nvidia driver soon fixed it right up. So far, no problems other than the inevitable activation shit, which'll be corrected with 420dopemans fix. Other than that, scanning through the comments helped immensely and the game is perfect. Thanks a million!

For those of you who've had the problem that it goes as far as to the menu, but then gets a white screen where it then hangs: Try change view-mode to windowed. It might work then. It did for me, and I was able to change back to fullscreen.
My system: AMD (Shivering... Blargh!), 2 GB RAM, XP SP3 Swedish Corp. ed, DirectX 9c, also some customized DX-patch, which I don't recall what it was called. Some on here might know...
This game is quite cool, but the graphics are only slightly better than the first one.
The weapons fire-modes works better in the first one too... MUCH BETTER!!!
If you were to mash them together you'd get a decent game!

I also had the problem with it saying it needed activation after the 1st 3 lvls etc, I fixed it by uninstalling the game through the add remove programs function through control panel, dont worry, your profiles and saves are not deleted and you will be able to select the 4th lvl which will be unlocked once you install it correctly according to these install notes from the crack directory on the disk, I have vista but the xp fix should work as advertised if correctly applied.
Install Notes

1. Mount ISO / Insert disc
2. Run Autorun / Startup.exe
3. Select "Customize game install"
4. Enter installation path ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\" by default)
5. Select "Full install only, do not start"

7. Optionally apply the update patch #1 (if you feel offended by accidental nudity :))
8. Copy the provided crack file (MF.dll) to your installation folder (the one chosen in step 4)
9. Enjoy !

the crack folder I had also contained a replacement for startup.exe as well as the .dll file and it worked perfectly for me once I did it correctly.

I've gotten as far as I've (Or rather they, the humans) retrieved the key, then I find myself on what seems to be me on a transport vessel back to earth, then there's this Flood-octo-thingamabob speaking somewhat retarded about some yada yada bla bla bla, then just as it seems it's about to start to load the next level, I'm thrown back to the starting-menu, "Press any key to continue" - Even if the game ended, shouldn't there be some end-credits or something???

I downloaded this and it works very, i've even managed to get the online multiplayer working.
to play online all you need to do is once the game is installed, download and installed the official halo 2 for vista patch
once the game is patched then replace the original halo2 exe with the crack one and you can play online and it works since i'm playing online and getting the achievements too

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC. I downloaded this game and mounted the ISO file with Daemon Tools. However, whenever I double-click on Startup.exe, I get a blank window with a dark blue background which says "Halo 2 for Windows Vista" on the title bar. Nothing happens.
There's a Startup.exe in the CRACK folder and I tried copying the contents of the ISO to the hard disk and then replacing the Startup.exe in the main folder with the one in the CRACK folder and still nothing happens. Just a blank blue window. How I install this game? Help please?
