OMG, DUDE, THANX, BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS 4E4, ORIG WAS A JOHN CAMPBELL STORY IN ANALOG MAGAZINE! I BELIEVE JAMES ARNESS IS THE MONSTER-THING NEAR THE END. PLOT MAKES A BIT MORE SENSE IN THIS FIRST FLIC, CLOSER TO THE WRITTEN STORY. ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIND THAT? AGAIN, THANKSALOT!

@bluebullet, the end of the story (Who Goes There - I think) had a large bird flying south at the end. So, onmly basic idea was the same.
