Description:

A group of reporters who are trying to decipher the last word ever spoke by Charles Foster Kane, the millionaire newspaper tycoon: "Rosebud." The film begins with a news reel detailing Kane's life for the masses, and then from there, we are shown flashbacks from Kane's life. As the reporters investigate further, the viewers see a display of a fascinating man's rise to fame, and how he eventually fell off the "top of the world." Director: Orson Welles Writers: Herman J. Mankiewicz (original screenplay), Orson Welles (original screenplay) Stars: Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten and Dorothy Comingore http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033467/ Date .....: 30th August 2011 Runtime ..: 01:59:24 Size .....: 7840mb Video ....: 1488x1080 (X264 @ 23.976fps) Bitrate ..: 8406kbps Audio ....: DTS 768kbps Source ...: Retail Region A Blu-Ray Lang .....: English Subs .....: English / French / Spanish / Portuguese / Czech / Polish / Hungarian / Romanian / Greek Notes ....: The current and previous rulesets did not get in detail into reference frames settings. The high.definition.x264.standards.revision.3.1.addendum.1 elaborated and provided a formula explaining how max reference frames are to be calculated following h264 specs. While rules work well for standard WS releaeses ("--ref 5 or higher is required unless the vertical resolution is greater than 864, then 4 must be used to respect L4.1"), it is not accurate for full screen 1080p (1:~1.33). Blu-Rays in general follow h264 L4.1 and 4 reference frames, but they are all in 1:1.78 frame as they are meant for WS HD TVs (meaning FS movies have large black areas on the sides). For rips however all those black parts are cropped out. For this specific movie the vertical res is 1080 (1488*1080=1.378), however the horizontal resolution plays a big part unlike in widescreen movies. The formula the rules were simplified from is: ref = 12288 * 1024 / (vertical resolution * horizontal resolution * 1.5) this gives a ref5 for 1488*1080 and silimiar resolutions: "12582912 / 2410560 = 5.21" Using the --level 4.1 switch basically automates the ref frames setting according to h264 requirements. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Levels Bottom line: all the above blubbering is to explain why this rip has ref 5 and not 4 as we try to do things right (as much as possible) :)

Yep.

At 6 days I'm only at 11%. At this point I'm ready to throw in the towel and go with the smaller 720p version.

AVOID THIS!
Bad Rip. It skips throughout the film. I appreciate the efforts of the original poster, but would have been nice if he had at least checked it before uploading.

Please excuse my previous comment. This torrent plays fine, just differently from all the others I've d/loaded. Just had to get the CCCP and find the correct codec. My apologies to the uploader.

Great movie, and great release. thanks dude

cormaczoso (2012-07-28)

great rip ... a stunning b&w achievement ... after decades of seeing the copies of this movie get worse and worse and no one doing anything about it, someone finally remastered it and blurayed it and it's gorgeous ... better than the original release quality no doubt
thanks for sharing this
tho i'm still unclear why it's not in wide screen

mitchum22 (2013-08-23)

Cormacbozo,
Why isn't it in wide screen? Because it was in 1941, genius. Maybe they should lop off the top and bottom of the frames so it'll fit on your damn HDTV.
The rest of your comment is intelligent, so what the heck???

devilsplaything (2013-09-04)

why is this file so big? almost 8 gb for a movie?!

Nemosyne (2014-06-23)

"why is this file so big? almost 8 gb for a movie?!"
Some people appreciate quality. Personally I can't justify downloading an HD copy of a film if the grain isn't clearly visible.
