you can play on hamachi if you have the ability to create a LAN game without going through STEAM, which you usually CAN. If this game is a STAND-ALONE, which it is (no steam). just open up the game, while connected to a Private LAN on hamachi. and if someone on your hamachi network has a game hosted it will show up under LAN games. However, if you need to be connected to steam in order to play LAN then you can't play. But their has been no other steam games that you have needed to do this for in the past. People play garry mod 10 on HAMACHI networks.

Alright, a comment to end all comments:
This is the full game. It works without Steam. You just click on the icon and WHAM you start the game.
The installation is in russian, but since we all know the layout of the basic installations these days, it shouldn't be much of a problem guessing through it.
The audio is also in russian. The introvideo is in russian. The voices are in russian. But the text IS NOT.
Just go into Options in the main menu when you started the game, then click on Audio, and set Captions to Full, which will show you every word they say (including other sounds, as the Full mode is meant for deaf people) IN ENGLISH. Once you've installed the game, every single text in the game will be in english.
Conclusion: Except for the annoying background music the group made in the installation, the game works perfectly. There's no virus, there's no errors, it's 100% clean. If you really, really, REALLY want english voices, which would just be absurd since russian works perfectly as well, then wait a few days until someone uploads the english version, okay?

FYI if you run one of these copies while steam is on, steam detects that you are running it and displays it to other steam members.

Well, I wasted my time downloading this torrent, apparently. And before you pounce on me with your useless flames, I am not new to "da intarnetz". I've downloaded torrent and installed plenty of torrents. I know the ropes and I know what I'm doing but I obviously missed something...
Did everything I was supposed to do, downloaded the torrent, ran the Install wizard, went to Program Files > Left4Dead and selected the RUN_L4D.exe file. But nothing loaded. It virtually did nothing.
Also, my computer is more then capable of running Left 4 Dead as far as hardware goes. And plus, I've been playing the demo for quite some time so I know for a fact my computer can run it.

edit: i installed the newest hotfix driver and now everything works like a charm. If you get slider2k's english voice fix, that works as well. Everything will be in english. Except for the radio transmission at the end of the first act.

For all people who have the Steam Logon problem: Create a second account on steam, one that doesn't have games, or any value. Log on to that account, install the online patch (the link is in the description of this torrent), and play the game. I believe it can't find any dedicated servers, but if you play vursus in your own lobby, wait for other to join, and start a search. It will eventually say there are no dedicated servers, and do you want to host local game? Press yes, and you can play singleplayer. As infected, or Survivor.
About the random crash after applying the sound fix, I know nothing, but it's probably the fix.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I think you refer to the survivors just staying in saferoom in versus mode, you can fix this by doing the following:
go to options>keyboard/mouse>enable developer console > enable this.
Then when playing versus, as infected, press ~ to open the console, then type: director_force_versus_start 1
the survivors will start to play instantly.

It is a Russian version, if you find the audio files for the full game in english then it will be in english.
It is a non-steam version, meaning that you are not required to run steam while playing.
You can play with friends over lan or Hamachi.
Hamachi is a program that makes a VPN (virtual private network) which uses the internet a makes a network using it alwing friends to connect to your network and playing games with you.
as far as i'am aware there is not an online crack yet, be patient :D

Here is my way to get the game working over LAN after the steam patch that was released on november the 22th.
1. Create a steam-account, which you have no intension to use with legal software.
2. Make a shortcut to 'left4dead.exe'.
3. Rightclick on shortcut and select 'Properties'
4. In the 'target'-field, add: -console (Remember the space between '.exe' and '-'
5. Make sure you're logged into your fake steam account. (otherwise 'left4dead.exe' generates an error upon start)
- Now the game will start with the console open -
6 (optional). Write "Bind F12 toggleconsole" (F12 can be replaced with whatever key you'd like)
- Now you can close and open the console without any problems, just press F12. This step is important for people like me who has a keyboard on which the *ConsoleButton*(button to the left of 1) doesn't work. I have a swedish keyboard. -
7. In the console, write: "sv_lan 1" to avoid an error that steam generates in the next step.
8. In the console, write: "map ". A list of available maps will appear. Just choose one, and the game will start, and your server will be available to anyone on your local network. Choose a map with "..._vs_..." to play Versus mode, and any other to play campaign.
9. The other players, should follow step 1 to 6, and then write the following in the console:
9A: "connect 192.168.X.XX", If you're playing directly over LAN. "X.XX" should be replaced by the last digits of the host's internal IP-address.
9B: "connect , If you intend to play over hamachi.
9C: "openserverbrowser", which opens the normal steam server browser, from which you will find the host's game.
