Description:

BBC Horizon - God on the Brain (2003) Rudi Affolter and Gwen Tighe have both experienced strong religious visions. He is an atheist; she a Christian. He thought he had died; she thought she had given birth to Jesus. Both have temporal lobe epilepsy. Like other forms of epilepsy, the condition causes fitting but it is also associated with religious hallucinations. Research into why people like Rudi and Gwen saw what they did has opened up a whole field of brain science: neurotheology. The connection between the temporal lobes of the brain and religious feeling has led one Canadian scientist to try stimulating them. (They are near your ears.) 80% of Dr Michael Persinger's experimental subjects report that an artificial magnetic field focused on those brain areas gives them a feeling of 'not being alone'. Some of them describe it as a religious sensation. "...a high probability [Ellen White] had temporal lobe epilepsy" Prof Gregory Holmes, Dartmouth Medical School. His work raises the prospect that we are programmed to believe in god, that faith is a mental ability humans have developed or been given. And temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) could help unlock the mystery. Oh yeah, Ellen White had some brain disorder, that's how she was able to see in vision that tobacco use was dangerous to health. Mind you, when she wrote this doctors were prescribing cigarettes for certain respiratory illnesses at the time! Also, she wrote that the brain had electrical impulses and that pork eating was very bad for health. How could some disease cause someone to look into the future? She also predicted that America will be the most powerful nation on earth, in fact, that America will be an oppressing force to God's people one day soon. At the time she said America will be the most powerful nation, we were no where near that status. How did she know this? Simple, the prophecy is written in the Bible and she simply interpreted it correctly God's help.
What's happening here is that folks are trying desperately to run away from a God who is soon to judge this world. They are trying to explain away things that are genuine miracles or prophecies that only God is able to reveal.

Tamarind777 is exactly right. Ellen White's prophecies were dead on accurate. We aren't talking some small percentage of accuracy like Nostradamus or Al Gore, we are talking 100%.
You wanna trip out? Read the Great Controversy, written in the 1800's... see if your flesh doesn't crawl. And this was written by a woman with a 3rd grade education!

Tamarind777 and djmizzac, there are two things absolute, and these are the universe and the stupidity of man. I am not very sure about the former.
This is not mine actually, but from a very famous man who was quite well versed of absolutism and relativism.
Religion is useful, yea. Through it we can better understand mental conditions and the pathology of social interactions. People with imaginary friends make excellent study subjects for any psychological paper and theses. Mass ignorace is what nurtures their halucinations and serves as fertilizer for superstition. Awesome!
