Well that's exactly the problem - 6 BDs. I hated the split DVDs, which I did buy, and now they've made the same mistake with the blu-rays, so I'm not buying them this time. I'm not gonna feel bad when I've spent more than enough money on these films already through previous purchases and cinema tickets.

@pbxpb, this is a full widescreen aspect ratio, so because cinema screens are wider than our monitors, the only way to present the movie it its original screen ratio, is to present it with the black bars. When you watch a movie without the black bars, you're actually watching a chopped version (properly called pan & scan), so you actually had that the wrong way around. Widescreen = original, fullscreen = chopped.

the 2.40:1 aspect ratio doesnt play full screen(checked out the sample) thus downloading something this big and then not finding any difference with dvd edition makes it suck!! :( no offence to uploaders (peace) :) but guys like me who have no blue ray players or 40+inch telescreens will not find the difference if its not full screen (i play it on 23" monitor) and people THIS QUALITY IS VERY GOOD AFTER CHECKING OUT THE SAMPLE but its not 16:9 so it wont play fullscreen it will be chopped at the top and bottom a pity :( will some one release a full screen version please @insinuendo no offence

So if the subs arent really working properly for the Elvish then doesnt that mean its really quite difficult to watch properly. You cant keep turning on and off the english subs when you need them, I dont want them always running as they will distract from the movie. There is a lot of elvish in the movies too, so you cant just not use any subs at all. Shame really as this u/l and quality look top notch judging by the size of the download.

Hey thanks for this, I've been waiting for years for it. I've watched it twice in theater, and already bought the extended editions in DVD for over 100$, so I dont feel guilty downloading this.
However one big question : how is this even possible? I thought the blu-ray will be released on the 28th of June 2011, that is to say in 5 days? So is this the extended edition blu ray, or is this the theatrical edition blu ray, with the extended parts taken from upscaled DVD source? Thanks for your answer!

Hey everyone, I went ahead and fixed the subs insinuendo posted above. I just had to shift all the subtitles back a few seconds after a certain point in the movies, and they all aligned perfectly after that. I guess the bluray versions of these movies added a couple extra seconds in somewhere, throwing all the subs off. Someone else can fix the full english that come in the torrent, I didn't feel like it. :D

Do the others yourself, its very simple : download the sub for the EE dvdrip, and stretch the first and last sub accordingly to these BR movies. (use subsync or whatever) . strangely the dvdrip are a bit shorter in time but when you stretch the DVDsubs like I described the subs do match up. Guess that means the blurayEE runs a bit slower compared to the DVDEE. Anyway, it works ;)

It took a few days to get this and is my new record for biggest torrent I have ever downloaded (last one was 62 or so gig for 007 movie torrent hdtv and brrips).
I can only echo what other people have said. It is totally worth it.
If you are like me and you're kind of happy with most movies to be I dunno about 3 gig and 720 just to watch, but when it comes to your all time favourites you want really good quality 1080s for playing on the big big TV, then you need to get this release. Or buy the bluray! Hahhahaha. No, but seriously...

I have to ask, why did you stray from the mod16 resolutions for Two Towers and Return of the King? This makes it so that anyone wishing to hardcode the elvish-only subtitles must reencode the entire video.

I play most of my films through my PS3. I run them through MKV2VOB, maintaining the DTS audio track. However, my receiver and 5.1 setup do not support DTS-HD MA, and I have an older 60gb (fat) PS3 so it does not support DTS-HD MA either. The specifications for these files note that the audio track is 6.1 DTS-HD MA.
So, my question is...will the PS3 or receiver automatically scale down the signal to make it compatible, similar to how 5.1 AC3 can be automatically scaled down to 2 channel? If not, will the muxing program solve the issue whilst maintaining the DTS format and bitrate (rather than scaling the entire audio track down to 640kbs AC3)? If anyone could please provide me with some answers or point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to download an 80gb film because of visual improvments (I have the previous 1080p extended edition release already) only to sacrifice audio quality. Thanks!

78 GiB is huge, yes, and the download speed is naturally not the best to put it mildly.
But this movie (I like to see the Trilogy as one movie, because it was shot as one) is by far(!) the best movie of all time, and I have watched a SHITLOAD of movies in my life from all different continents.
The quality is purely breathtaking, it takes the experience to a whole new level. I have waited for this a long time, I might just wait another week or so downloading. ;)

Blu-ray's, dvd's, games etc, can be obtained up to 3 weeks (maybe more) before their official release dates IF you have the right connections.

The subtitles I posted are the original subtitles that come with the movie. Not all Elvish lines are subtitled (watch the DVD version to see the what is included in the hardcoded Elvish subtitles). For example, Elrond's lines at the beginning are not subtitled in the original movie.

To all the guys wondering if this is real or not, I advise to download the samples first. It is known fact that FOTR Extended Bluray has a greenish tint as compared to FOTR theatrical cut or FOTR extended dvd. I have a 1080p brrip of FOTR theatrical cut. So I compared the sample with the theatrical cut and sure enough, the sample has a greenish tint. So, it must be the extended bluray in my opinion.

I'm using utorrent. For your information, I had accidentally shut down my PC once during the earlier stage of downloading this file and utorrent was open at that time. I then restarted the PC and utorrent did a recheck of the torrent file, which took a long time, before it continued the downloading process. Therefore, I am not sure if the missing file/film was caused by that 'break' in the downloading process. Now my main worry is whether the 2 films that I have downloaded will play or not. VLC showed it to be alright but have yet to stream it tO MY TV. Worst come to worst I will download it again when there are more seeders. Cheers!

OK, forget what I said when the 1st film (Fellowship of the Ring) went missing at the end of my download - it suddenly appeared on my portable harddisk when I was copying the file from my PC to it! That's right, I got all 77.96GB of the file in my portable harddisk but my PC still shows only 50GB plus (2nd and 3rd film only). So dissapointed in the seeders of this VERY good torrent.
I started DL on July 27, and it FINALLY finished on Sept 17 - 6 WEEKS Later.
If you download, UPLOAD at least 1:1 Ratio, while you download and afterwards if required.
No one likes a Leeching Sponge, that gives nothing back.
I uploaded at 40 to 60 KBytes (not bits) /sec throughout and after, to 1.6:1 Ratio - I uploaded 125 GB and did my part. Do your part. UPLOAD.

I just finished downloading this. It took me exactly 250 hours. My connection is fast enough to do it in about 13 hours. Some people have said every torrent should be like this one. I disagree. Torrents are about sharing and I like to share. I even wish upload speeds were as high as download speeds so we all could share more. However, this is not so. Limiting how fast others can download only hinders and frustrates those of us who do share. Unfortunately, there will always be those who just hit and run.

can anyone give me some advice:
these files play fine on my PC with VLC Media Player although only in stereo.
when i stream them to my network connected blu-ray player the video stutters, stops then speeds up and i get very broken sound.
if i pop one of the files to a usb stick and pop it into the usb slot on the tv plays fine in stereo
if i burn a file to blank blu-ray as data i get the same issue as streaming so its not a network bottleneck issue (gigabit/switched)
other MKV's i have downloaded from here play fine except the Jurassic Park Trilogy they are jumpy too

You're right, on the first movie, after the first half, you have to delay the subs by 7 seconds to sync them with the audio.
Looks like they slapped the two-disc version of the subtitles from the DVDs together and failed to sync them correctly.

Quick question, do anyone know why the resolutions of the second and third films are not 1920 by 800? Two Towers is 1906x798 and Return of the King is 1920x796.
Great torrent by the way, subtitles are easy to find. I'm not complaining about the resolution as it isn't noticeable, but I'm still curious.

Can any1 comment as to whether these are the COMPLETE films? The 12 gig version I D/L awhile back cut off the ending credits. The musical score during the credits of these films are among the best ever, including Annie Lennox's 'Into The West'.

It was slow at start like 2-50 kb/s, but I had faith and left it a few hours and it started downloading with up to 2-4MB/s. Took me about 10 hours in total (left it at night) to download. All worth it, fantastic quality, i will save these forever.

No ripper is going to release the unchopped version of the movie (meaning they aren't messing with the aspect ratio) adn THEN ALSO release a chopped version to satisfy 1 out of 100 people. Oh, they were ALL released with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 Notice the numbers: 2.35 to 1. OK, this means that the length of the movie is more than twice the height. Now, look at your widescreen. What is the ratio of it? 16:9? I think it is. They are ALL made with that ratio. So the length of the screen isn't even twice the height. Hmm
How do you show an entire movie (without cropping) on a screen with a different aspect ratio? JESUS CHRIST MAN! C'MON! Get a %&*#@ brain! Of course it's not going to fill the screen! Remember when you were a kid and you had this ball with shapes on it, and you had to find block with the right shape to put them into the ball? Can you get a circle ti fill up a square? NO. Nor can you get a movie with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 to fill a widescreen TV that has an aspect ratio of 16:9, which is also 1.78:1
So, since the movie has a LONGER shape than your TV, so that you can see the movie the way it's supposed to be, other than taking a hacksaw and cutting parts of your TV off, the video itself is made to fill up the LENGTH of the TV, matching the bit lengths. The length of an HD movie is alway 1920 in bits, as long as it's a 1080p movie, and coming off of blu-ray that's what you get. Length always = 1920 bits. Your widescreen TV has the same amount of pixels for its length. 1920 pixels. But since your widescreen TV has a height of 1080 pixels, if a movie doesn't have a 1.78:1 aspect ratio like your TV does, then you have black bars at the top and the bottom of the image.
If you don't like that then REMUX the thing YOURSELF! Don't ask a ripper to change the aspect ratio of a movie.
