indecisean (2008-03-03)

why am i shocked, but COME THE FUCK ON?! less than TWO HOURS and you already need to leak this out there to people not paying?
pathetic.

lazybitch (2008-03-03)

Yes. To those who did pay but their webpages/download links timed out/expired, this is a welcome for them.

Tulsamovies (2008-03-03)

Yeah really, I've been trying to buy the damn thing for the last two and a half hours. I will buy as soon as I can but in the meantime I do what I can to listen to my favorite artist.

c0ng0bong0 (2008-03-03)

The whole album isn't licensed under the creative commons is it? If it is, then this torrent is legal.

requieminadream (2008-03-03)

Thank you so much! Thank you! After two hours of going through ordering it, and attempting to download it at 30kb, this works! Thank you thank you thank you!

c0ng0bong0 (2008-03-03)

It appears it is under creative commons.
http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/8095

Now you can use your paid for download later to get it in some lossless format for safe keeping on a burned disc. The NIN site is totally jacked at the moment.

nincure (2008-03-03)

this doesn't work at all. i get an error saying it's trying to download from some store.. wtf?

3iLL (2008-03-03)

Thanks for the upload. Like many I imagine I wanted to sample the first for free but it timed out, numerous times. Admittedly I'm usually a leecher but will def seed upon DL.

cluracan (2008-03-03)

A tip for those of you keen to buy the deluxe and ultra-deluxe editions:
Head to http://www.ainr.com/
You can place an order there and you also get the ability to download the tracks now. That said, I'm with c0ng0bong0; I'd rather wait until their site's in good health before trying to download it.

c0ng0bong0 (2008-03-03)

This is lame, it looks like only the original uploader is bothering to seed. Everyone is bailing on it as soon as they're done.

nincure (2008-03-03)

wow, beautiful sets. too bad i can't afford it. so does anyone know if this torrent is gonna stop failing immediately? and actually work? because i'll stop wasting my time and look somewhere else if it's not. :/

marskid2 (2008-03-03)

@c0ng0bong0
Firstly, it's a 285MB torrent that was only uploaded a few hours ago. Unless the uploader has FiOS or any equivalent high-bandwidth upload, they're probably capped under 100kbps and it will take a few hours for multiple seeds to pop up.
Secondly, since many people WERE able to get the first disc, people using Bittorrent clients with file selection might only choose to get the albums II, III and IV. While this supports further downloading, they will not show up on the tracker as a seeder.

3iLL (2008-03-03)

Even though I've no use for the fluff. I DLed the whole deal and am at 94? percent so I should be seeding soon.

cfoam (2008-03-03)

Kept getting an error message accessing this torrent using BitTornado, but finally had success with uTorrent. FYI, in case this is driving anyone as crazy as it was me.
Oh, and Trent, you'll have my money by the end of the week.

fragility666 (2008-03-03)

shipping for the 2cd to australia from nin.com is something like 13.50usd. i was a little peeved/deceived, then i chuckled. i did not continue with my order.

jamie37 (2008-03-03)

indecisean what the fuck is your problem?
stop bein a dick.
dont forget trent reznor had an oink account so if its good for him then its good for us. thanks uploader.

the2989 (2008-03-03)

People saying "Well Trent had an account at OiNK so if its good for him then its good for us", that's the dumbest logic i've ever heard. Trent actually DOES THINGS for the scene, besides leeching like a little bitch. He MAKES THINGS, he DOES HIS PART. You dirty leechers just bitch about everything and yet you don't contribute shit. I registered here just so that I could say this.
And BTW, if you're going to download for free, either get it off the site or off the official torrent, because then Trent and company can keep track of statistics easier. I payed $10, because I'm able to (and I want the shiny case and booklet and actual discs and all, yeah), and saying that the site is slow is a poor excuse, I got in just fine after F5ing a few times and setting my download manager to only do one connection per download. This allows you to resume broken downloads, and the download site does allow for it, I recommend using FlashGet. The single (one, 1, etc) connection setting is necessary, because if you get more than one simultaneous connection, the server will get pissed and think you're hacking it, therefore cutting you off from your download.

RNEMESiS42 (2008-03-03)

I bought it legitimately from the ghosts website, but I keep getting corrupted downloads after 30 seconds. This will do for now. I guess I'll get lossless whenever all this failed server bs gets figured out...I just want to hear it!

unscheinbar (2008-03-03)

You can still actually BUY it afterwards, hypocrites.
Thanx lazybitch!

lordbk (2008-03-03)

the site seems totally overrun - i placed my order for the deluxe box but the download breaks every few seconds.
thanks a lot for the upload!

nincure (2008-03-03)

thanks to the person who said their bittornado wouldn't work, that is what i was using, and sure enough, i downloaded utorrent, it's going just fine now. thanks!

randal1013 (2008-03-03)

lol at indecisean. this is THE PIRATE BAY. you even HAVE AN ACCOUNT here.

thistransition (2008-03-03)

Trent Reznor already stated that he doesn't care if people download his music
check youtube the clip is on there

harv (2008-03-03)

indecisean: ur mom.
lazybitch: sweet thanks

MercierNIN (2008-03-03)

am i the only one with this problem?!? when i'm tryin to download the torrent i always have this error: ''got bad file info - path .DS_Store disallowed for security reasons'' someone can help me??

nympholept (2008-03-03)

I'm downloading this, after buying the FLAC version, because I have a shitty internet connection which i know will fail half-way through the download.
Fuck this "one-time only download link" crap.

pesco (2008-03-03)

Ah, lazybitch, the torrent contains lots of dotfiles, e.g. '.DS_Store' and that whole crap tree '__MACOSX', whatever it is...
At least my client bails out because of those, refusing to populate my disk with hidden files.
Maybe you could fix that. *shrug*

DarkSpartan (2008-03-04)

At all you asshat complainers saying that we are hurting the scene. FUCK YOU. If Trent wasn't such a dumbass and didn't underestimate his fans then this wouldn't be here. 90% of the people downloading this would've payed for it if his fucking servers would have been able to handle us all.

unscheinbar (2008-03-04)

Lighten up, dark Spartan.

jojones88 (2008-03-04)

Just purchased the 2XCD set. Its been ten hours and I have no confirmation/download link so I'm getting this. Won't feel bad for ol' Reznor since I already paid him... The first volume is great.

kornchild2002 (2008-03-04)

I too have purchased the $5 download set. I went the ALAC route but the download never goes through. So I am downloading this for now and will try to download the album tomorrow or maybe even next week when it all clears up. I am waiting for the retail release before purchasing the album just to see if it gets any exclusive packaging.

cruelmemory (2008-03-04)

I too bought the $5 download and will be buying the $40 vinyl release. But the servers are out and I can't get my lossless download link to work (too many attempts error). thanks for the upload. At least it's available.

ikillbambis (2008-03-04)

I ordered this twice on NIN.com - Once as just a download for $5 that the link didn't work and the I just went ahead and pre ordered the Cd's and was given another link that didn't work. It's not TR's fault his servers are failing but I paid $15 + $6.99 shipping so uhh NO I don't feel bad getting the music from here.

askmatrix (2008-03-04)

Thanks for uploading

Megatherion01 (2008-03-04)

Gonna buy this as soon as the NIN site calms down a bit. I just want to show my contempt for the criminal recording industry by supporting Trent and gang. If more artists do this they will kill the pimps off... finally.

Right2aBearsArm (2008-03-04)

Thank you thepiratebay, nine inch nails, and lazybitch for sharing. Lazybitch has one upload. maybe this is some sort of test for marketing research or a private test from nine inch nails themselves. either way, i suspect that this is legit. thank you

esquizoide (2008-03-04)

This album was meant to be shared since it was licensed under Creative Commons.

noname2277 (2008-03-04)

Pesco: It helps to read what the rest of the file is. MACOSX is a folder containing extras such as wallpapers and other jpg files.

tharkban (2008-03-04)

To those people trying to download this on a linux box and getting an error having to do with .DS_Store (not allowed due to security violations), this is caused by hidden files in the torrent (silly mac users). You can download this file using btdownloadcurses if you edit the file btformats.py (probably located at
/usr/share/pycentral/python-bittorrent/site-packages/BitTorrent/btformats.py)
but you should be able to find the file using locate btformats.py .)
sudo gedit
/usr/share/pycentral/python-bittorrent/site-packages/BitTorrent/btformats.py

change the line
reg = compile(r'^[^/\\.~][^/\\]*$')
to
reg = compile(r'^[^/\\.~][^/\\]*$|^\..+$')
This will allow the downloading of hidden files (files which start with a .)
In the future please do not create torrents that have hidden files in them.

nevermorebe (2008-03-04)

I just bought the limited edition of ghosts :D
Too bad the damn downloads are down or I would have the album in lossless by now.
I don't know what I would've done if this was any other band (huge nails fan, had to have the signed box for the collection, you guys understand). $10 for a double album but then seeing the album up for free on tpb in a day, I'm sure lossless will follow ...
I applaud Reznor for his break from record companies *hisses* but I'm not entirely sure if this way of distribution is going to be that succesful. Time will tell, I'm sure it'll do better then the Saul Williams album, nothing against the guy but even with Trent helping that album turned out to be mediocre at best.

warcloudfan333 (2008-03-04)

Everyone complaining about the NIN servers and saying you'll buy it later - you know it's on Amazon, too, right?
With reliable, fast servers?
Not that I haven't said I would buy something later (after pirating it), myself...

ThunderPX (2008-03-04)

I promised myself I'd buy this after the server shitstorm blows over but I still feel bad about downloading this :(

ThunderPX (2008-03-04)

(BTW, Amazon MP3 doesn't work outside the US)

krazyman (2008-03-04)

Bought this off Amazon mp3 for $5 This is some amazing stuff.

oneofone2007 (2008-03-04)

@ Shai
5 bucks for 36 fully instrumental tracks that your able to remix, use for podcasts, do ANYTHING you want with? Even if they were simple beats its quite a deal.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. But don't complain about it.

headlion (2008-03-04)

@Shai666
Its like 'Still', but with more guitars, and more songs.
IMO very good.

redcore (2008-03-04)

I think this torrent is a NIN experiment. Just check what it says in the descrip of the "official" torrent for Ghosts 1:
"Ghosts I is the first part of the 36 track collection Ghosts I-IV. Undoubtedly you'll be able to find the complete collection on the same torrent network you found this file..."
They're probably seeing how many people turn out buying the album vs how many people just want it for free. I'm sure the server problem kind of spoils that experiment (I've read a lot of people who paid but couldn't download, so they just downloaded this).
PS: to those whiners complaining about the server problems - eat shit. Until you actually run a really popular server, shut yer pie hole sailor.

nothing__void (2008-03-04)

For tracking purposes, I bought the $5 D/L and the deluxe set from nin.com. Maybe drop a line and say what you bought...help the man keep track of his system. Not that he'll read all of this, but he'll pro'ly skim it. Thanks for the album!

sanjurom (2008-03-04)

i bought the rare super mega hyper ultra deluxe limited collector's edition for $300. now i am poor.

towlieban (2008-03-04)

I really think we all need to buy this album instead of downloading it from a torrent site (even if this torrent is only Ghosts I ). We need to show the record labels that we will pay for music if it comes in a DRM free format that we like, such as mp3's or flac's. Skip 1 meal at McDonalds and pay $5 to Trent Reznor. or skip 2 and get the $10 version. Cmon people! As of right now, the site (http://ghosts.nin.com) is down because of overwhelming traffic. According to what Reznor posted on his site, there was 3 times the amount of expected traffic to the site and its just growing. Once its back, please go to http://ghosts.nin.com and buy the album. I bought it last night and its an amazing album. Please buy it, NIN fan or not.

wittyusername (2008-03-04)

any idea where I can get the flac version; I'd rather have that then the mp3 version and with the site acting up I can't get it. I'm more than willing to pay the $5 for the album.

parquedematt (2008-03-04)

Bought the album 14 hours ago but downloads are still hosed. Downloading this instead.

afipanic (2008-03-04)

yeah i bout the album awhile ago but never got the link either. thats why im doing this.

soundping (2008-03-04)

Thank you, lazybitch

Luciferatu (2008-03-04)

First - this album is an amazing piece of art, sonically, visually, esthetically, and it would never have been released by any of the big music companies. That alone is well worth the paltry $5 price of admission.
Second - at last there is an artist who "gets it" about the future of media distribution. Hell they even used TPB as the official site for the free sampler release, and under a Creative Commons license to boot!! Meaning you can do just about anything with this music except get paid for it!
So...here's a chance finally for those of us media hounds who say we support the artists but not the music companies to put our money where our mouth is. If P2P is really a meaningful movement, and not just a way to get something for nothing, IMO we MUST support this release. If you like the music (and you will, NIN fan or not) do the right thing - pony up the $5. That'll send a big "fuck you" to the RIAA and a big "cheers mate" to the first major artist to release here first.
Don't be a dick. Do the right thing. It's only $5. (And no I'm not in any way affiliated with Trent Reznor or NIN :p)
http://ghosts.nin.com/main/home

CoRP5e (2008-03-04)

I wish someone would release the apple lossless files. I paid the 5$ shortly after the site went up, and I still cannot download the fucking songs.

luisbg (2008-03-04)

ghosts.nin.com downloads are working since this morning. not lightspeed, but enough to in a few hours have your flac version. I have mine. :)
will share the flac version in a few days.
we need to motivate people to buy the album, so this release method is proven to work. and to be honest, the music and artwork are just sublime.

pixelbanana (2008-03-05)

registered on TPB just to post that...
I think NIN's release is freaking awesome, FUCK the RIAA and all those scumbags, but unfortunately I can't access the NIN website right now, looks like their server's dying... But I got hooked on the official first album and wanna listen to the rest NOW :P
So I'll def go and buy the $5 version when their site is back up, in the meantime, I'm grabbing it here...

orangeapple (2008-03-05)

Trent is a god!
Paid for this album today, $5=~£2.50 is nothing really. This is the way to do it, the right pricing model for downloading music & artwork.
Tony Wilson (Factory records) in 2000 came up with the concept of selling MP3 tracks for 33p each. No one really 'got it' back then. Often early pioneers often dont succeed, but finally someone is getting it right.

Art_Vendelay (2008-03-05)

wait a minute there is not lyrics on any of the songs, they are still good but its kinda lame

1r0nman (2008-03-05)

is this just instrumental?

umbepo (2008-03-05)

I paid for this but you know, server troubles. made me have to download it here.
By the way, I already learned ALL the lyrics for EVERY song.

Hierophantasmagoria (2008-03-05)

@Art_Vendelay
It's instrumental.
Same problem. Paid $10 dollars for it, will get the album in April.
Download fucked up, had to get it off of this.

Bountyx (2008-03-05)

Bought the album, but the download fucked up.
Anyway this is really good stuff, enjoy it and buy it!

kaysindre (2008-03-05)

Hi!
Payed for this but the download failed, so instead I'm using this SUPERIOR torrent technology!
:P

mushroomblue (2008-03-05)

every ounce of my being wants to download this torrent right fucking now. but I can't do it. I can't steal from Trent Reznor. I'll wait until I can afford a FLAC download and a CD purchase.
Trent _had_ to be the one that posted this torrent. either way, he'll be sure to nab the download statistics on this torrent.

leetGirl2k5 (2008-03-06)

the last time i was aware of NIN was when i read that quake1 sound is made by them ... so i read so many nice comments i give this a shot and reserve a pace on my music collection for this nin release.
Thanks

esquizoide (2008-03-06)

mushroomblue if you download this torrent you are NOT stealing since it was licensed under Creative Commons.
http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/8095

http://ghosts.nin.com/main/faq

jpr80 (2008-03-06)

Started downloading - and noticed it's only mp3's. Went to buy flac, and seems their servers are up and running as I'm topping my connection speed.

egofantastic (2008-03-06)

Freakin awsome album...love when reznor does instrumental music...and the photos are works of art...

RevengeBomber (2008-03-06)

If you haven't payed for this already, you should really be ashamed of yourself. Get off your ass for once and go pay for some genuine RIAA-free music.

tirentu (2008-03-06)

Trent Reznor really is ahead of his time with this. Not only is he going for an In Rainbows approach, this is basically as close as we've gotten to open source music.

Waltorhomington (2008-03-06)

Why is it called ghosts? Are these tracks so rubbish they killed them and then sold them off as a buy 9 get 27 free deal?

enochrewt (2008-03-07)

Just in case anyone is curious, this experiment by Trent Reznor was very successful. Even with the download problems that people had. The limited edition deluxe set has sold out and made $750,000US within 2 days. That's just the deluxe version only, the regular $5 and $10 aren't included in that figure.
http://www.boingboing.net/2008/03/05/nine-inch-nails-made.html

cangoalie (2008-03-08)

I totally agree with everyone that said to buy this album. It is important to support new business models. Trent Reznor is innovating the future of music retail and copyright, and I think it is crucial to support him.

XxDeucexX (2008-03-08)

Awesome album, these guys are truely artists.

kotnick (2008-03-08)

All I can say is... respect!

thedude2007 (2008-03-09)

Transcentral: They are both needed, fucktard. Just like when you buy a CD, the guy that drives the lorry is needed the same way TPB is needed for this. If it wasn't for TPB there'd be no way to distribute it, if it wasn't for NIN there'd be nothing to distribute.

 justliketwobalOOns (2008-03-10)

RevengeBomber, luvmesomelohan, cangoalie... The music is licensed as Creative Commons, which means you are completely free to download it.
To support the new business model is not to buy the album - that's the OLD model. Support the band by buying merch or going to their shows. I myself will certainly NOT pay for a copy of ghosts, since I want them to go on a tour. If they make trillions of dollars just selling albums, why would they tour?

aazznuzien (2008-03-11)

transcentral needs to stop posting, this isnt your everyday someone bought a cd and ripped it and posted it kind of thing. this is the artist making the cd then releasing it himself on the net free.... so get your mouth off tpb's dick and either download it or stfu

StarofTroy (2008-03-12)

I downloaded this but accidentally fucked it up. I've been trying to get the NIN store to send me another link but all my requests have been ignored. So far. Anyways I'm tired of waiting and I already payed my $5.

cangoalie (2008-03-15)

justliketwobalOOns :
I completely agree that that is what should happen eventually. But recall that when only 1/5 people that downloaded Saul William's pay-for-hi-quality-or-download-free album (which Reznor produced) Reznor publicly said that he was "disappointed". I don't think that Radiohead, Saul Williams, Nine Inch Nails, etc., are going to continue releasing music under new and exciting business models if they don't make any money at all. I think what consumers (torrenters included) should do is steadily pay less and less for the music, until making little/no money off album sales and a good deal more on tour and merch (already I want a poster of some of the awesome photos in the album art!) becomes the norm. Think the frog in boiling water - if artists go from making thousands on CD sales to nil, they are not going to continue with whatever model they are using. However, if it becomes the norm to make less on CDs, artists, I believe, will scarcely notice it. Future of music - more people hear more music and artists make more money (tour+merch).

daydream3030 (2008-03-16)

this isnt a chat room.. go talk about this stuff else where. damn.

Systematicxx (2008-03-24)

Not as good as older stuff but still a nice find. Good to see so many seeds.

squiddz (2008-04-01)

Come on, this is a bit out of order when you can download this from the official torrent, here:
http://thepiratebay.se/tor/4059158/Nine_Inch_Nails_-_Ghosts_I_(2008)

Buy it for $5!

grommin (2008-04-12)

36 Brilliant tracks. Makes the two hours you listen to them feel like half an hour. The pictures are magnificent. Definitely worth downloading and listening to.

HereticDivided (2008-04-20)

Why must you complain on a pirate site?
Either you support it or you don't there is no reason for everyone to be preaching to people who are going to download it anyway.

nympholept (2008-04-22)

esquizoide and justliketwobalOOns win!
squiddz needs to die, or learn to read.

fortdeath (2008-04-28)

I plan on buying, but I'm dead broke right now
I love this idea. I bought the radiohead album which im not even a big fan of. I simply purchased it to prove we p2pers stand for something. Fuck the man.

RM_Vee (2008-08-02)

People have so much animosity towards NIN right now (not necessarily on TPB, but elsewhere), it sucks that people can't just accept things for what they are and enjoy it. True, it's hard to beat the days of "The Downward Spiral" and "The Fragile", but there hasn't been a SINGLE released from NIN that I haven't loved in it's entirety (save for "kinda I want to"...that one is the only exception). People are entitled to their own opinions and all that jazz, but if you don't like it...then don't listen to it. Nobody really cares about the shitty things you have to say about the band, and you're only causing more stress for yourself.
Thanks for uploading, I'll seed forever.

RM_Vee (2008-08-02)

by the way, I'd pay $20 bucks for it if that's how much it cost in the stores. This is VERY worth it, but it's all in the eye of the beholder. Don't pay any attention to anything anyone else has to say about this album...listen and decide for yourself instead of letting others make the decisions for you.

everettpf3 (2008-11-15)

I don't agree with justliketwobalOOns. I happily paid the $5

 LosslessDude (2009-08-15)

Not 320kbps...
192 upconvert...

Nerolus (2010-05-03)

The only reason I'm downloading this is because it's been too long and the e-mail I got after I paid for it has since expired. Definitely worth the money.

seroazar (2011-03-29)

That's what I call respect!
Thx NIN first , then
@lazybitch thx you too...
