Okay timmaay tell me how many dvd players can play .mkv files. Can you say moron?

What you need to play .mkv or other digital video files with an HDTV is a little box called Western Digital WD TV, and an external hard drive for media storage. Other alternative media tank/player devices are the popcorn hour A110, and the Elektron EHP-606. All these devices play .mkv files at full resolution over HDMI. The Western Digital unit is about $100.00 plus a $100.00 1TB external hard drive unit and voila - complete media library available for viewing. The expensive option is to build an HTPC with a graphics card that has HDMI output like an nVidia 280GTX.
Enjoy the viewing!

xybrite, thats all well and said, but my point was, .avi works well. It plays on all computers and many dvd players. Introducing newer formats and newer codecs doesnt help anyone except the hardware makers. So whats wrong with just staying with something that works?

Wow, Bynx... you're really dissing somebody for seeding something to you for free? you're actually complaining? As big as the internet is, you chose to come harass somebody who's doing you a favor. Interesting. Well then... allow me to retort.
First, mkv files allow quite high quality content to be downloaded in a relatively small package. As for portability, you're on a computer right now. Is there some reason you can't watch video on it? Does your monitor suck? That's a real bummer man. Personally, I love mkv files, and watch movies on them all the time, on right on my laptop, which has a gorgeous hi-def screen.
But even if you don't have a hi-def screen on your computer... have you not figured out how to connect your computer to an external monitor for larger viewing? For shame, son. For shame.
But what it really comes down to here is this... nowhere in the description of my torrent does it say you SHOULD be able to view this on a DVD player. I'm providing a file to you that gives you high quality content in a particular format that can be played with free software. There are MANY alternatives!
If this was for DVD, I would have said so.
Long story short, I do believe you can take your whiny, unadaptable, behind the times BS, and peddle it on some other street corner. I don't need any here.
