I feel it is incumbent upon me to apologise (on behalf of the whole English-speaking world!) for the appaling comment posted by the idiot Starblazer007. My suspicion is that his/her level of literacy is well below coping with subtitles regardless of what language they might be in! To answer the question asked: No, hard-coded subs CANNOT be removed (you moron!); they are an integral part of the video picture.However, I do have to say, that hard-coding of subtitles is entirely unnecessary! I firmly believe that anyone doing it really ouht to be shot! :)
Nowadays, any software player will display almost any of the many available subtitle formats but .srt is probably the best to use as many DivX compatible hardware players can also display that format too. Furthermore, it is simplicity itself to write the likes of an .srt sub stream into the .avi container that such hardware players can usually display too!
Hard-coding of subs is definitely a No-No! And avoiding it keeps morons like starblazer quiet too :)
