Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog vechten de Australiërs een bittere strijd tegen de
Japanse soldaten langs de Kokoda-lijn in Nieuw Guinea. De Australische soldaten,
waaronder vele vrijwilligers, vechten op grote afstand van hun geboorteland,
om dat voor een invasie te behoeden.
Na een Japans bombardement raakt een bataljon Australiërs geïsoleerd achter de frontlijn
en moeten zij op eigen gelegenheid weer naar hun eigen linies zien terug te keren.
