you should encounter problems running it on vista or xp (has nothing to do with the quality of the upload same happens even with the original disks due to its age) go @ and download and apply:1 TrueMotion codec

I forgot a possible final problem. On vista once the opening sequence succesfully finished....I got a black screen where only game dialog appeared...
If this happens to you also... dont panic.wait and after first dialogue appears press Enter and then press + and then 0 (all 3 numpad keys) in order to enter and exit the ingame menu which works properly...and after that....

first of all you should try t the battle in another place(location is pretty random) and/or using another disk (# 2 or 3)
if it doesnt work out try uninstalling k lite pass the encounter and then reinstall .you may have to reinstall true motion after klite reinstall.
if klite uninstall doesnt help there are many claims that Ace Mega Codec pack helps with many ff7 codec glitches,but all agree that k lite is generally superior and should be reinstalled after overcoming those glitches
I also recall Ive read in the past that this glitch only appears if you have visited an abandoned reactor on southeast (an optional element of the game- if I remember well you have an encounter with turks there) before geting yuffie to your party- I dont know if its valid though

ah and first of all make sure that ff7 exe runs under combatibility mode win 2000.
