Works perfect! Just modify your hosts file, when it prompts you to reboot, do it. And at the star when it tells you it's illegal, etc. Just open the keygen, and it's done.
Make sure to unprotect (read-only) your hosts file before attempting to modify it.

ok i installed then went to the host file opened then added "127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com" then saved and it still says it has a fake serial then just in case i used the keygen for the license and opened and nothing. afterwords i relized the way the host was set up i typed it in as
"127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com"
thenbelow that with
"127.0.0.1 internetdownloadmanager.com"
i still have the same problem what am i doing wrong?

ok instead of waiting i looked and found this wonderful IDM free version and it worked for me no problem.

after you go to the site just extract then install then open patch and ignore all the windows that pop up. then open with IDman.exe (which opens after you use the patch)

Please help: i go to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\ and open up the file called "hosts" with Notepad. i paste "127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com" and then click save, i press to save the file in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\ directory and it says: "Cannot create the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Make sure that the patch and file name are correct."
What on earth am I doing wrong? do i need to download that hijack this thing you talked about?

enter:
127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com
tips:
If you can't see the hosts file it might be hidden.
If you can't save the file with changes go to properties and get rid of read only protection.
If you can't figure it out, sorry!

Like IA4, I'm skeptical too. But not about this torrent, its about the way the host file require modifications.. I see somebody says add "127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com"
while others say "www.internetdownloadmanager.com". Should I omit the local machine address or not?
Anyway, users like "^"din_baesj"^" shouldn't use bittorrent protocol and should be banned from the piratebay. They are really irritating and time wasting.

Hey guys i downloaded this a while ago and followed your instructions and it worked perfectly!!
However i had to reformat my hard drive and when i attempted to do it all again this time it didnt work.
I modified the host file, downloaded and installed IDM, ran the keygen and hit the register tab. After this it didnt do anything, it hasnt upgraded to the full version and it wont allow me to use the register option again.
I have tried uninstalling, running registry cleaners and even both the patches i found on in these comments numerouse times but each time i install IDM again it wont allow me to use the register key!
If anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it!

The program works when you first run it, but as soon as you exit it and run it from then on you will get the message "Internet Download Manager has been registered with a fake Serial Number or the Serial Number has been blocked. IDM is exiting..." Where exactly in the hosts file do you add the line www.internetdownloadmanager.com? I added it at the bottom. Anyways, registration doesn't pass. Don't bother with this crap.
