The Dream Clinic is a community radio show dedicated to playing what I call "The Soundtrack of My Long Ago Wild and Wicked Youth"..:) It is mostly based on the music from the Sixties and Seventies. Whether it be actually recorded back then...or a new live recording by a band who touches on that certain sound. The Dream Clinic features music which for some unknown reason has fallen through the cracks and has never been explored on the typical commercial radio shows.
The show has its roots in a fellow named Tony Cona who started a late night show on WMNF called The Dream Clinic after a radio skit he and friends did. That was 1985. Later my friend Mark Kraemer hosted the show for about 7 years by himself...4 hours at a time each week. I started somewhere around 1993 volunteering for duty at community radio station WMNF...shortly thereafter met Mark and found we had a lot in common musically. In the last 15 years several people have been involved with the show..Mike Slosberg, Jim Orr, Walter Storch, Mark Kraemer and myself..Dennis Stone. For about the last 10 years it has been my project...keeping the Dream Flame alive!
We've gone through WMNF timeslots from the "So Late Its Actually Early" 2am-6am shows...to 3 different evening shows..Monday, Tuesday and now for the last few years...Wednesday 7-9pm EST.
It is designed to be a weekly listen...something different each week...progressive, psychedelic, bluesrock, rare albums, live recordings, hard rock (remember hard rock before metal came along??)...lots of computer editing the sounds...never know what you might hear on The Dream Clinic!!
Playlists and the weekly replay may be found at www.wmnf.org
Thanks for Listening to what I have to play.....

Ok...I warned you! If you didn't wear your heavy metal helmet..sorry 'bout that...:) This weeks show consisted of about half requests and some of my own picks. Starting the show with jeff Beck stuff...The Yardbirds with Happenings...one of the first things with both Jeff Beck and Jimmy page onboard...then the request that was received..Situation aka Truth was from a set of studio sessions recorded for the Rough and Ready LP. And then..a tune Mr. Beck is known for..along with a LOT of other groups...Goin' Down done by a more current band. The Armstrong-Bearcat Band out of Cleveland...just a real cool version for guitar lovers only!!
Next we gave away a couple of tix to see Dark Star Orchestra...asking an easy contest question as usual...
Hot Tuna next...the Heavy Metal Tuna that is!! Four songs from between '75 and '77..including one live and reasonably rare performance of Snow Gorilla....non-stop phone response for this set!
Slowing it down just a tad with Frank Zappa...a soundboard from 1978 including a couple of sweet guitar solos from FZ.
Tim Emery from the demo LP "Alias Redd Garrett. This is a strange LP...half of it sounds very country...the other half like hard rock style guitar rave ups. I played one track that sounded like Charlie Rich joining Frijid Pink....followed by maybe the best song on the LP..When You're High...spooky guitar and commentary about "the summer of '69".
Right into three cuts from the Parish Hall LP....sort of an unnoticed LP but with some very good sounding early 70's rock.
And last on the show this week...another great recording of Randy Hansen by Jon Winder aka FUBB. I Cool Edited four songs together and had to edit out a few "FCC Non-compliant" words...but it turned out great...response was good for the last 30 minutes as we remembered Jimi through Randy. And BTW...our BIG THANKS to Randy Hansen, Kevin Fillo and Jon Winder for the recordings...they have allowed us to give out discs of Randys shows to Dream Clinic supporters at marathon time...and are supporting WMNF in the process.
Thats it until next time..:)
