It sounds as though you may not have copied all the files across?
The first time I missed the chaos group folder and recieved the same message.
Try these steps again and let me know how you get on:
copy & paste vray2011.dlll & cgauth.dll into C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2011
(or where ever you have 3ds Max 2011 installed)
copy & paste vrender2011.dlr into C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2011\plugins
copy & paste cgauth.dll into C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT\bin

Follow Mudstompers installation guide but in between that, during installation, follow this:
1. Installation Type : Workstation
2. Make sure your 3D Max directories are correct as shown in the default installation.
3. Select local V-ray license server on this machine & check Register V-ray menus
4. Uncheck Install WIBU key drivers, keep uncheck also Register the V-ray License Server (this works for me). Check this in your next re-install if it doesn't work for you.

The vray is fine, but I cannot get the render settings to be saved. Each time I re-open the file, it resets render settings, any ideas ????

Going to state the obvious and risk sounding stupid here but you are saving your Vray settings by going to presets (next to the render button in render setup) and saving your preset right?
Saving your project has nothing to do with saving your rendering settings.
Otherwise works fine for me I have several presets ready to go and I cant help you?

The RT real-time active shade preview renderer needs a license. but this part is not realy necesary, furthermore it seems to works perfectly, thanks

I've followed all the instructions including the ones that was posted here and the files I downloaded and I still will not obtain the licence. Is there anything else I must have missed?
I copied and replaced the cgauth.dll on both the root and bin folder and still nothing. Please help?

I followed the instructions and I'm still getting the failure to obtain license error. Does this not work with 3dsMax Design 2011?
The RT renderer works but not the regular vray one.
