Description:
Hi penniless futurama fans! :)
You probably know about the h.264 codec and how great and "scalable" its is.
Well, scalable means from super high-end HD, to shitty low complexity ones.
So, I made this movie file to demonstrate what h.264 can really do, unlike most
torrents out there that use the base profile (=shit)
This movie is encoded with Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/), an open-source
(aka free) tool that does exactly this job, and its does its great.
It's encoded using the absolutely highest possible settings! On a Core 2 Duo
2.8Ghz Extreme Edition, it took 8 full days(!) and that's why you don't see
a lot of this kind of quality rips around...
You can play them in Quicktime or any player with the right codecs (h.264 and
ACC, nothing weird) but you will need a decent computer to handle this
complexity.
Here are the settings I used:

- Audio & Subtitles

- Chapters

- Advanced
http://www.flickr.com/photos/32237988@N03/3015763961/sizes/o/
In brief:
Video codec - h.264 high profile @ 1650.2kbits/sec
Resolution - 1024x576
Audio codec - ACC stereo, 48kHz
I hope I'd see more high profile rips out there, until then.. Enjoy!!!

It's 1024x576, when most dvdrips are around 512-640 wideaenaon (2008-11-13)
You are technically correct, but this is 720 wide anamorphic, producing a 1024 wide image, thats how dvds are encoded. If I made it 720pixels wide, I would actually shrink the height and the producing image as an effect, which is what most dvdrips do. Explaining what anamorphic is and why dvds are like that, is beyond this post, but you should definately google it :) thx for the feedbackDjTigerush (2008-11-23)
How stupid can you be to say "Hi-def is for anything above the standard DV of 720 x 480, so this is definitely hi-def. "Indeed you are stupid HD starts at 720p and FHD is 1080p .. so study then comment
aenaon (2008-11-25)
Isn't high def from 480p, then 720p, then 1080i and 1080p? I mean, at least thats what high def mean for Apple's trailers on their site.In that respect this video is between 480p and 720p, correct me if I'm wrong

You call this ''high super-duper fantastic'' quality??? The picture looks like shit, you just stretched DVD image, used blur to remove blocks and set the colours to ''washed out'' settings (or so it looks)... And don't give me that ''you're not using correct codecs'' crap, I'm not a rookie who just figured how to download torrents. You thought that you can get HiDef picture by encoding DVD 720 x yy resolution to 1024 x yy resolution and get... what? 8 days of work for nothing, mate.
Peepz, just stay away from this rip, the normal DVDRips around here have much better picture.
aenaon (2008-12-05)
hehehe.. ok, let me be clear:1. the name of the torrent is chopped off. It says "super high profile", but pirate bay cut the last part. I know "super high pro" sounds er.. stupid. I'm referring to "h.264 high profile" with its settings to the max.
2. I dont see the point of the HD or not debate. What I tried to make, and believe achieved, is the best possible quality achievable for a dvdrip at 1GB
My point is to demonstrate that not all dvdrips are created equal, you can agree with me on that one, right?
dj-test (2008-12-05)
If you're trying to demonstrate anything NEVER change the source resolution. If you had a 720 x yy DVD, encode it as 720 x yy and DO NOT expand it to anything. OK I agree, if you have a 1024 x 768 screen resolution your rip would MAYBE be better than resizing it with codecs while watching, but most of people nowadays have 1440x900, 1920xwhatever resolution (my notebook has 1366x768) and then a ''disaster'' happens - at first the video was resized while encoding and then it is is resized again when you watch it in fullscreen, so you get worse quality than just watching normal DivX/XviD DVDRip with original resolution. So next time when you'll be demonstrating H.264's capabilities - maintain the original resolution and everything will be alright.
dj-test (2008-12-06)
I didn't tell the PC to play it in any ratio, when I played it in a window with 100% size it was 1024x dontrememberwhatanymore. So if it's anamorphic, posterized, solarized, memorized or pasteurized, the quality is still worse than a XviD DVDRip with 720x392 resolution I found here on TPB.aenaon (2008-12-07)
dj-test, please look into the term anamorphic and how dvd video really is.dj-test (2008-12-07)
I really know what anamorphic means and DVD really is max 720x480 or 720x576, which your video isn't. Just leave resizing to codecs and don't mess with it for yourself. OK, you can do whatever you want with your rips, but the fact remains, that the picture quality is poorer when you resize your version to a bigger screen resolution as resizing, for example, DragonRipper's XviD version.BTW: Why is this upload still in Highres section? I thought DVDRips aren't supposed to be here...
