If Im not mistaken he escaped from a train in Canada and escaped to the States then on to Germany where he went back to work for the lufftwaffe and was killed on a mission. The German guy was played by Hardy Kruger who was the model airplane building in the original Flight of the Phoenix with James Stewart. Just some trivia for ya.
