Description:

TV : Adventure : DVD quality : English The Prisoner is a 17-episode British television series broadcast in the UK from 29 September 1967 to 1 February 1968. Starring and co-created by Patrick McGoohan, it combined spy fiction with elements of science fiction, allegory, and psychological drama. The series follows a British former secret agent who is held prisoner in a mysterious seaside village where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. Although sold as a thriller in the mould of McGoohan's previous series, Danger Man (called Secret Agent in its U.S. release), the show's combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surreal setting had a far-reaching effect on science fiction/fantasy programming, and on popular culture in general. A TV mini-series remake is slated to air on AMC in 2009, and Christopher Nolan has been widely reported to be considering a film version. Enjoy and Seed!!

This will be seriously seeded. Just watched the 2009 version which just left me wanting the original that much more. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this torrent! I'm 6 episodes in and it is SO good! For the first bit it has that Cowboy Bebop style where despite all of his Clint Eastwood-style badassery (and Patrick McGoohan is great at this), he can never quite win. Great series with a great plot and twists that keep you guessing.

What are the audio and video codecs for the files? I different torrent that I got (quite quickly too for torrent) they were encoded with DX50 with mono audio and VLC crashes.

cmdrkeen86 (2010-01-08)

Nevermind, this is the exact same one I downloaded. Same upload as a different one with the same tech specs for the codecs.

One of the greatest TV Series ever

bbbbbs (2010-06-11)

Thanks for that ..
Quite mediocre quality though, was captured from a tape (as it looks)
Is there a DVD version?
I'd buy it (and so should you) :)

bbbbbs (2010-07-09)

I have to correct myself!nOnly episode one seems to come off a VHS tape, the rest is actually off DVD and good quality!

Me and my old man watched this back in the 70's for a summer in Canada. I thought it was pretty cool, then caught it again in the 80's as a kid in University taking a film class. Very avant guarde!
Now, sitting down on a Saturday evening, blazing away, it's pretty cool TV, even for today. A real classic.
Much better than say, my old reminicing about the Man from Atlantis or the 6 Million Doll-hair Man. Even Miami Vice doesn't hold up. Dreck.
Herk.

From the remarkable and fertile mind of Patrick McGoohan, who created & produced the series, as well as writing and directing most of episodes (some under pseudonyms) -- not to mention starring in them. (His major in school: mathematics.) We will not see his likes again.

AJNorth (2011-10-28)

Almost forgot to add special mention of the sensational Main Title / End Credits music by Australian composer Ron Grainer (and the surrealistic and whimsical illustrations during the End Credits).

@AJNorth: I agree. The genius of Patrick McGoohan was accentuated by the brilliant score by Ron Grainer (also famous for the score and Main Theme of the original Dr. Who? series). As for the Opening, Closing titles sequences, there is nothing of it's kind quite as compelling and intriguing.

Better quality at - if slightly - less volume can be found at

Thanks, but the quality isn't quite up to scratch for me at least.

Most excellent ! I look forward to this when it completes.
But to comment on one of the earlier commenters: The Prisoner shares nothing w/ Cowboy Bebop or even the work of my heroes, Clint Eastwood. BTW, I saw most if not all of Cowboy Bebop and a coouple of cuts from the OST are in my music player.
The Prisoner challenges us to consider what would happen to a dedicated operative of the State (*our* State) if that operative was deemed to **know too much**. I gave up on anime long ago, bec it never reached these heights and had little likelihood of ever doing so. Certainly not Cowboy Bebop (not even on style grounds.) Patrick McGoohan's work is symbolized by his reliance on his wits and occasionally his fists. The Prisoner and its predecessor "Secret Agent/Dangerman" created a unique saga in the annals of TV. It's more than just entertaining, it's thought-provoking in ways that few other programs have ever dared, before or since. Rod Serling is one who comes to mind who tried to challenge his audiences w/ ideas of the calibre of those considered in The Prisoner...
