Technical support staff with little or no experience in managing OpenVMS systems that may be part of larger networks and/or OpenVMS Clusters.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
• Describe major system resources and their function in an OpenVMS environment.
• List the components of a DECnet network.
• Create and use queues, including forms definition and management.
• Define and manage LAT services.
• Manage disk and tape volumes.
• Describe the functions of the system startup and login files.
• Set system parameters using AUTOGEN and SYSMAN.
• Install OpenVMS layered products and updates.
• Monitor system resources.
• Perform tasks that enhance system security.
PREREQUISITES
Before taking this course, students should be able to:
• Manage system users, which requires:
• Maintaining the user authorization file and volume quota files.
• Creating user file directories (UFDs).
• Controlling user processes.
• Manage system resources, which requires:
• Mounting and dismounting disk and tape volumes.
• Setting device characteristics.
• Starting and stopping print and batch queues.
• Performing full and incremental backups and restores of disk volumes.
• Starting up and shutting down a system using the default startup procedure.
These requirements can be met by completing OpenVMS System and Network Node Management I.
