Thanks mate.....Great upload
keep up the good work

dustypie (2008-06-19)

woah

Jadocs (2008-06-19)

Yeah, wow! I'd like to know what people think after installing it.

ouwe036 (2008-06-19)

For screens look here... http://orchardspy.com/
As its name implies (a variation of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard), Snow Leopard will effectively be a beefed-up version of Leopard. No major new features are planned, instead Apple is working to substantially optimize the code so that everything on a Mac runs faster with more security and stability.

sweetx101 (2008-06-19)

1 seeder and 60 leechers
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
thats a turnoff

adeleon1952 (2008-06-19)

does it work in G5 PPC?

ouwe036 (2008-06-19)

Nope.. SnowLeopard will not be compatible with PowerPC.

adeleon1952 (2008-06-19)

Then read this...
Apple is promising a version of Mac OS X that "dramatically" reduces the amount of storage space the operating system requires. Undoubtedly, some of that will come from the re-engineered core technologies, but it's hard to conclude that Snow Leopard's release will come not as a "universal" binary capable of running on both Intel and PowerPC processors, but as a single-platform product.
Universality has been handy in ensuring users can run the same installed code on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs without resorting to emulation. But just as Leopard lacks the ability to run Mac OS 9 apps - a feature present in previous Mac OS X releases - there will come a time when Apple drops Rosetta, its PowerPC emulation mechanism.
Early rumours concerning Snow Leopard suggested PowerPC support was to be dropped, though that was subsequently denied by Apple insiders.
How can these two claims be reconciled? Only by Apple shipping native-only versions of Snow Leopard. Owners of Intel-based Macs will finally be free of all that redundant PowerPC code in the system software, freeing up space for, as Apple puts it, "their music and photos".
...
Apple won't be ditching support for universal binaries, or PowerPC Macs, because there, for now, too many of them out there. But if Snow Leopard's Grand Central technology does as promised and improves the OS' ability to work with multi-core CPUs, Intel-based Macs are going to shoot even further ahead of old G5 and G4 models.

kevinm1 (2008-06-20)

This release is INTEL only, but that doesn't mean that they've dropped PPC.

bradfantin2 (2008-06-20)

well, this is great for intel users, how about early adapters to intel. i have a intel core duo prcessor, wich serves my purposed great with casual gaming and quick PS work, but that will be a kick in the balls if apple made it 64 bit only. i might as well have a PPC then :( sadface. hopefully it will remain 32 bit as well.

kevinm1 (2008-06-20)

@bradfantin2
All the requirement says is an Intel Mac, not necessarily Core 2 duo. So the Core Duo are still capable of running this.

q.skywalker (2008-06-20)

can this version update itself to a newer build once it's become available? or do we have to d/l the newer build all over again?

kevinm1 (2008-06-20)

Just like all beta builds of OSX, you will have to do a complete reinstall of the OS with every release. That's why it's not recommended to install over your working OS.

albinoz (2008-06-20)

Thanks For Snow Share ;p

demonguard (2008-06-20)

If you have a green demon account I'd reccomend grabbing this over there, it actually has seeds :)

ouwe036 (2008-06-20)

please some help this guy out whit seeding..
This one is taking for years...:)

karltech (2008-06-20)

Basically Leopard would continue to exist for PPC users (til an end-of-life is announced), Snow Leopard obviously is for intel only based systems, also they seem to be cutting out carbon framework, meaning programs written with the older style development will not work on snow leopard (which is a lot of the smaller apps)

sweetx101 (2008-06-21)

the speed of this is crazy, sometimes it'll be 4 years until i see snow leopard, sometimes 12 hours. I would also like to change my previous comment to
1 Seeder and 350 leechers? Are you kidding?

bil3y_da_k1b (2008-06-21)

@ sweetx101:
Are you fucking retarded?
This was upped yesterday and is over 6 gigabytes in size-do you honestly expect other people then uploader to download all 6 gigabytes in 1 day?
Keep your dumbfuck comments and complaints to yourself.

ben boyd (2008-06-21)

there are a whole bunch more seeders over at demonid and mininova, if the torrents differ??

sweetx101 (2008-06-21)

@bil3y_da_k1b
technically i am as i suffer from Semi-Asperger's Disorder
thank you for your comments

Crossaxel412 (2008-06-21)

what happens if i have a boot camp partition? will the boot camp partition be OK?

Cursichella (2008-06-21)

You have a dvd of 7 undoubtedly Go for engraved snow leopard otherwise how whizz you make for the engraving because I have that dvd of 4,7 Go me Be able to you tell yourself how you made Thanks a lot

wytwolf (2008-06-22)

Cursichella you need to use dual layer disks (8.5 GB). Snow leopard will not fit on a single layer (4.7 GB disk).

Cursichella (2008-06-22)

Thanks Witwolf a lot for this information I have reussi installs the systeme on a macbook pro 2,5 Ghz but it seems that it is not still tres in the point because the graphic card (1920x1200) felt a pain has the suporter still thank you

iMike360 (2008-06-23)

Mailpaun, This is Mac OS X it only works on Macintosh's.

sahilbajaj1 (2008-06-23)

hey people. I have been uploadin at 50kbps for 6 hours per day for the last 5 days and my download has not gone above 15 kbps. I realize its a big dowload and there are not many seeders, but to all those downloading can you please increase your bandwidth for uploading so that we can seed the file faster. Would be much appreciated.

sweetx101 (2008-06-23)

@iMike360
you can install Mac OS X on a PC, but it's not a great practice to get into

007BL (2008-06-24)

Burn it on a dual DVD people

sweetx101 (2008-06-24)

if you put it on an external drive and it was the only file onit, could you boot from that and install it?

sahilbajaj1 (2008-06-24)

Once this developers pre-release of Snow Leopard is installed, will it automatically get updates when they are released through Software Updates or would one need to manually download any updates?
Thanks in advance

eccehommo1970 (2008-06-25)

works fine thanks. i burned with disk util on cheap dl and installed very quickly indeed. battery life read 5 hours from nearly full. though brand new mb 2.4 xbenched at 79 against my imac 2.0ghtz at 145

themacguy12 (2008-06-26)

seed!

psychoh13 (2008-06-28)

Can someone post the Xcode documentation AFTER being updated from the website ? Thank you :D

telekid (2008-06-28)

Sharing is caring. Seriously, seed. This is too good a file to loose because people are too damned selfish to share what they steal.

texasrangers (2008-06-29)

can more people seed? don't be jew

ruruep (2008-06-29)

Unless you are dev. do not install! Some softwares are NOT going to work...

sahilbajaj1 (2008-06-30)

What are these "Some Softwares" That do not work? Seed Please. Max DL I have gotten is 40 even though I'm uploading at 75+.
Also if someone can please confirm if this will update automatically to future versions, it would be much appreciated.

macfan_63 (2008-07-01)

Wow 8 users done with the DL and none are seeding. I have been seeding the whole time and plan to for weeks to come.

sahilbajaj1 (2008-07-06)

What? All of a sudden people forget what comments are for? Lets get some feedback, how is Snow Leopard ? And don't just sit on it guys, share it faster! What's happening to Piratebay users man.

britishcolumbia (2008-07-07)

HAHA i cant wait for this! i can see that the only problem with this is that people dont have DL DVDs thanks for seeding! this is going to be my main OS! if too buggy i made a time machine backup of my leopard OS so its all good mang lol

britishcolumbia (2008-07-08)

UPDATE This is a great torrent, works great. just remember to burn in disk utility on a double layer DVD and back up before install!

silversurfer9999 (2008-07-08)

I first installed Leopard to my USB disk and made sure it was partitioned with GUID to be able to boot from it. It worked flawlessly. Then I installed Snow on top of Leopard hoping it would upgrade as some other has confirmed. It installed without problems, but when it restarted the wheel of death kept spinning for more than 10 minutes. Any ideas for a fix to run from the external USB disk as I did with Leopard. I tried to install directly on a clean partition on the USB got the same result, spinning wheel again. Appreciate any tips/ideas.

sahilbajaj1 (2008-07-08)

Hey Silversurfer, how come you booted off a USB, more so why? Can you try burning it to a DVD 7 disc and installing it?
Thanks, and hope you provide more feedback.

silversurfer9999 (2008-07-09)

I did not want to install it now on my main hard drive, before I have tested it with my main programs that I cannot live or work whit-out.
I restored the Leopard Image to My ext.USB hard drive and booted off from there. Installed Leopard first. The I restored Snow Leopard same procedure as above and booted up from that one and installed it to my Leopard installation that worked flawlessly from my ext.USB disk. When the installation/upgrade is finished it restarts and the spinning wheel of death is all I see. Yesterday I also installed directly but with same result. I waited more than 20 minutes watching the spinning wheel and the Apple logo before I gave up. Anyone has any ideas WHy this is happening.

Godmanis (2008-07-09)

Hi.
How i can write cdr format?

sahilbajaj1 (2008-07-09)

Silversurfer999 can you tell us what kind of system you are trying to install it on. Specs would be good.

silversurfer9999 (2008-07-13)

I am installing on the latest iMac 2.8Ghz.
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
SMC Version: 1.30f1
Serial Number: W8810D6JZE4

sahilbajaj1 (2008-07-14)

can you try to burn it to a DVD 7 and install it from there? It would be a good idea. I have tried installing Ubuntu Linux from a USB drive and have had issues as well.

91tzinovieff (2008-07-20)

My iphone 3g will not appear on my macbook with snow leopard, does anyone know how i can sort this out or at least how to uninstall snow leopard. i have a time machine back-up from before i installed snow leopard. thanks, tom

sahilbajaj1 (2008-07-21)

hey 91tzinovieff, do you get any particular error messages? Have you tried using software update and updating the system, along with having the latest iTunes 7.7? Snow leopard uses the exact same leopard base just more efficiently, so if it works with Leopard, it WILL work with Snow Leopard. Have you tried to wirelessly sync the phone?
PLEASE SEED!! God Dang!

gls1529 (2008-07-27)

How do I write this to a double layer dvd and boot from it?

sahilbajaj1 (2008-08-06)

@gls1529 buy a Double Layer DVD (8.5 GB) put it inro the drive, and then using an application like Toast, burn it as a data disc, then sit back and enjoy.

sahilbajaj1 (2008-08-14)

hey does anyone else get an error when trying to burn this?

hintzsche (2008-08-15)

LarryG (2008-09-02)

Works great!
Though I couldn't install it using a DL DVD but Restoring the .cdr image to a partition of my hard drive went flawlessly and took about 8 minutes to install! yeah quick I know.
Will software update call home to Apple?

migbeta (2008-09-02)

I burned it to a DVD DL and was unable to install it, LARRY G can you elaborate a little more as to how you did it???
Thanks in advance...

LarryG (2008-09-03)

sure migbeta,
1) Partition a hard drive (external FW in my case) to two or more partitions, one for the .cdr to be restored to, the other to install Snow leopard on.
2) Open Disk Utility and click on the 'Restore' window. For the 'Source' drag the .cdr into the box, for the Destination drag in one of the partitions of the hard drive. Now click 'Restore' which is to the right of the 'Destination' box. Make sure 'Erase destination' is checked.
Now the hard drive partition will be seen as a Snow Leopard Install DVD on your desktop. And since it's read off of a hard drive now it only took me about 10 minutes to install the new OS in total.
hint: if this still doesn't work try converting the .cdr in Disk Utility to a uncompressed read only.img

migbeta (2008-09-03)

LaryG,
Thank you! should I check on the box for GUID partition under options when creating both partitions? Just want to be sure..
Also on the external drive, will I loose all data if I do this??
Again thanks for your time...

LarryG (2008-09-03)

Yes, you must use GUID because Snow Leopard is confirmed to be Intel specific.
And yes, when partitioning a drive all data will always be erased.
so like in any computing situation, backup backup backup!

migbeta (2008-09-04)

LaryG,
Thanks... anything you can share about this new OS.

LarryG (2008-09-04)

it's by far still a Preview.

darklordvader77 (2008-09-05)

Hey guys, i burned it in a DL but when it's seems to boot, the apple logo disappears and another logo (something like "warning, don't park here") shows up..
What's my machine's problem?
PS My specs are: iMac 17" C2d@2.00GHz, 2GB RAM

LarryG (2008-09-05)

You're gonna have to be more specific about that logo darklordvader77.

darklordvader77 (2008-09-05)

i will try (sorry for my english though)
It's a circle, with a line across it's middle, or simply the familiar "don't park here" plate related to cars in streets.

LarryG (2008-09-05)

ahh, are you trying to upgrade your system from 10.5.x or due a 'erase and install' or install on a empty partition/external drive?

darklordvader77 (2008-09-05)

Actually, I tried (with all the reasonable tools [Boot Leopard, disk utility]) to partition my internal HD, but it didn't partition, it said i haven't enough space [60 gigs???] This happens because i have deleted the windows partition with Bootcamp.. happened in the past too (fail to partition)
My only option is backup->clean install?
PS Does anyone have iPartition? i can't find the license.. PM me please.. i'm desperate!

LarryG (2008-09-06)

There's no reason to spend $50 on iPartition when you can due the exact same thing with Disk Utility.
Sounds like you may have some type of corruption on your system. If I were you I would due a complete clean install (wipe the whole disk) and only install the apps you absolutely need. Than try my previous instructions.

artur1272 (2008-09-18)

Two Deays and 69 Mb wrrr....
People seeding !!!!!!!!!

MayangROKS (2008-10-18)

Guys can you please seed!!!!!
Also, does anyone know if I can make a boot camp partition and a partition on an external drive and do that thing that LarryG did but on the boot camp partition???
again-SEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alolo (2008-10-26)

hey guys .. is it recommended to install it ???

kriskros2008 (2008-10-29)

installed and its buggy. waiting for an update. its not really smaller as claimed

marcus_mark (2008-10-29)

Hi! Above all thanks for sharing.
I am interested in trying out this new Snow Leopard but I do not want to install n overwrite the current OS(Leopard) I am using. Will it be possible for me to partition my currently-running hard disc and squeeze out some free space as I still have ample space (150Gb) for another OS installation? My current OS takes bout 80Gb of 250Gb of space of my hard disc and on top of that I've a separate partition (15Gb) for Windows which I've partitioned using Bootcamp.
Thanks in advance.

nightwalker12 (2008-11-04)

RevalationX (2008-12-03)

Once I get this installed will I be able to update Snow Leopard through Software Update?

kaosdroid (2008-12-09)

1. you can't install this on a g4 or g5 machine. only intel is supported (since the idea is to really use the architecture of those processors)
2. it's a developer preview, yes it's buggy! no, you can't use software update. and no, you are not a developer don't even try to think of it.
3. you all stink. if you are not interested in how unix works and how apple's gonna work out their new system to speed up your apple hardware don't download this.
4. no, there is absolutely no way you can install this OS on your new bought PC with a stinky intel processor... well ok, there is a way, but since you're asking here. YOU WONT BE ABLE BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA....

nadavvadan (2008-12-14)

thanks very much!
i hope the speed will get better.
going to install it on my HDD 500Gb so it won't hurt anything i have on my computer.
thanks again.

bnegative (2008-12-17)

I have to say I agree with kaosdroid (despite expressing himself like a superior dickhead) that you shouldn't bother downloading this because you want the latest and greatest, which it seems many people here are doing. It is a largely unstable developer preview - if you're just downloading this out of interest in how the next release of Mac OSX is going to turn out, you'd be better off trying to run it in virtualbox or something.

mcshift (2009-01-12)

I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard(10a190) last week and i can say it was a bad decision because i could no longer use the programs( limewire, vuze, utorrent, (transmission works) logic pro, garageband, my printer (even after installing new drivers)). I have also encountered errors such as- there is no picture behind the login box at login, spotlight's drop down box moved and did something wierd.
also there are no software updates for SL betas and i read in the installation instructions that once this beta is installed you cannot update or install the retail version when it comes out possibly the 24th( unless you do a fresh install).
I got kind of annoyed with all of the programs that dont work and errors so i put in my leopard install cd and i did an archive and install( basically does a fresh install but it takes all the files from you previous system( snow leopard) and puts them in a folder so you dont loose any file you have. so i will just wait for the retail version of snow leopard to come out because the beta has too many errors.
SNOW LEOPARD PERFORMANCE
i didnt really notice any major speed improvements in SL and i did benchmarks using geekbench (64)
before SL : 3551
with SL : 3586
after fresh install back to leopard : 3598
now im not sure how to explain 10.5.6 being fast than 10.6 because i benchmarked both after fresh installs.
WAIT FOR THE RETAIN VERSION TO COME OUT!!!!!! NOT WORTH IT......YET

caseeosx (2009-02-05)

fpunk - Are you using a PowerPC mac? They won't be able to install this operating system without some sort of hack as Apple is dropping PowerPC support.
Turner64 - You might be able but its not recommended, just buy a mac. You'll need to install a zillion patches into the disk image. Look up Mac OS X86. Sadly you'll see too much. Its against the law in America and Canada to install Mac OS X on a Windows PC.

stales89 (2009-07-02)

@leillox88
What if 'kaosdroid' used voice recognition and didn't actually type?
Just something to think about :)

Hirsa (2009-08-03)

andresaic (2009-11-23)
