Spoorloos (1988, The Vanishing) Directed by George Sluizer CRITERION COLLECTION Spine# 133 IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096163/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Tere's a nice blog here: http://alsolikelife.com/shooting/?p=190 This is the highly accliamed Dutch/French original. Rather than give the detailed Wikipedia synopsis with the spoiler, much better to watch this film. The ending is very good, and the film as a whole has a rather distinct structure (or lack of it). (Wikipedia, part) A Dutch couple, Rex Hofman (Gene Bervoets) and Saskia Wagter (Johanna ter Steege), are on a cycling holiday in France. Their car runs out of gas and they are stranded inside a tunnel. They quarrel for a while, but make up and eventually get going again. Later they stop at a gas station. Here Saskia goes into the shop for drinks and never returns. [...] Rex can not accept his loss and three years after her vanishing he still compulsively looks for her. [...] This is ruining his new relationship with a girl who tries her best to adjust and make him get over the incident. Then he meets up with a chemistry teacher, Raymond, who admits to her kidnapping... Raymond finally invites Rex to the very same park and gas station where Saskia disappeared, with the promise that he will tell him what had happened to Saskia. Almost forgot: Thanks to Raphael.
Keep seeding dear fellows, will be pulling out soon.

zeinabqureshi (2008-04-19)

Nearly a 100 downloads, not even a comment, no comment on the quality... spent quite some time correcting the subs etc... or haven't any of you watched the film?
Phrerqlhsfkljhzszsss.

willi5 (2008-04-22)

it's totally useless with these subs.

zeinabqureshi (2008-04-23)

To that simpleton who commented on the subs: either be aware of what you're doing, or buy the DVD, or watch it on TV. Don't make such moronic comments about things you don't know. "Wiili5" is a dedicated leecher, from what we get to know. Don't tell this to someone who has synced hundreds of subs.

zeinabqureshi (2008-04-26)

OK, will check again...
If there's anything I can do I'll post the corrected subs in opensubtitles or subscene.
Thanks.

zeinabqureshi (2008-05-02)

Corrected subtitles at http://subscene.com.
Search for 'Spoorloos'. Click on the English subtitle made by ZEiNAB. The web page is
http://subscene.com/the-vanishing-spoorloos/subtitles-11831.aspx

Thanks a lot for your patience. The mistake occurred while converting the SUB/IDX using VobSub, I must have chosen the wrong frame rate.

JonisG (2008-05-07)

Thanks for this! Great flick, and netflix doesn't carry it. Awesome.

zeinabqureshi (2008-05-12)

Thanks for the comment. In case you need the English subtitles, make sure you download the corrected version at subscene.

Vikingman1111 (2008-05-15)

Thanks Zeinabqureshi, I was about to write a nasty "subtitles" note, but after downloading the good ones, discovered you corrected the problem quite well. Thanks again for putting out one of the most horrifying movies of all time!

zeinabqureshi (2008-05-18)

Ooh...nice thing I corrected them, because I'm in awe of Vikings...and considering where tpb is located, I'd have been gored well and proper...!
Botching up the subs was a nasty thing to do, but I convert the sub/idx so it can be burnt into two CDs, if someone wants it that way... really funny thing was, I spent more than an hour converting the sub/idx into srt with all the italics and the unicode...
Once you watch a great movie on DVD, the next thing you want to do s share it...only too happy to do it...

GeoPirate (2008-06-12)

Thank you VERY VERY much! One of the best thrillers I ever seen, obviously much better than american remake. Great share!

zeinabqureshi (2008-06-18)

@GeoPirate:
Happy to know you liked it, thanks for leaving a comment.

dan138zig (2008-06-22)

the subtitles are indeed messed up. but thankfully you could download the corrected one here:
http://subscene.com/english/the-vanishing-spoorloos/subtitle-144115.aspx

zeinabqureshi (2008-07-01)

@dan138zig:
Thankfully enough, the said subtitles at sunscene was uploaded by me.

alansokal (2008-08-25)

Hi Zainab, Subs seem to wark perfect (yet to watch the movie). Thanks for your effort.

zeinabqureshi (2008-09-03)

@alansokal:
No, I don't think they will work right...(from what so many have said above). So please go to subscene and download the subtitles I've uploaded there. You can't miss it, it's named correctly to match the avi.
Cheers.

silk.worm (2008-10-19)

Thanks for putting this up and correcting the subtitles too. Seems to be a classic which I've missed out on.

allfnj (2008-11-10)

zeinabqureshi (2008-11-16)

@allfnj:
My Dutch is bad (starts at van Basten and ends at van Persie), but from your kindly English interjections, made out something like the American version having a happy ending. Happy ending, for Spoorloos? Nonsense! No wonder they make such bad films.

allfnj (2008-12-17)

@zeinabqureshi
indeed your dutch is bad. I don't blame you. Spoorloos has a terrible ending, but the remake of Spoorloos. The vanishing has a different ending. That 's also what I wrote in my previous comment. Enjoy the movie. It is great,..the dutch version :-)

zeinabqureshi (2009-01-04)

@allfnj:
Sorry for not having looked here earlier, so I'm a bit late with the comment...but it's inconceivable that Spoorloss could meaningfully have a different ending...I like another Dutch film, Turks Fruit, which I believe is Verhoeven's best film so far... Anyway, thanks for writing in...

zeinabqureshi (2009-01-29)

@maxgrande,
Thanks for your continuing patronage...and thanks for seeding, please do so as much as you'd care to. I've personally got a lot from this site...to tell you the truth I began using this site only after demonoid went defunct (the second time, in 2007 Nov I guess). This is a terrific site...very easy to do things here...
And once more, thank you for your patronage.

WillArthurMusic (2009-02-06)

How exactly do you apply the new subtitles.. Sorry I've never done that before.

zeinabqureshi (2009-02-10)

You don't have to apply anything; just make sure the new subtitles are in the same directory as the avi files. To make things easier, please check if the avi and the srt files have the same name.

faisalkidwai (2009-03-21)

Zeinab, I always thought I was crazy about films but you are in a different league all together. The depth and breadth of movies you have seen is simply amazing. You would do great as a film critic.
P.S. I am posting this message on other movie boards because I do not know which one you would read.

miragman (2010-03-17)

cool stuff thanks zeinab!

mufuti9 (2010-04-06)

Why would anyone include subtitles that are not compatible with the video file?

zeinabqureshi (2010-04-13)

@mufuti9: ~
Mistakes happen. Which is why you should read ALL the comments before downloading. Corrected subtitles available at subscene.

portis40 (2010-04-18)

@zeinabqureshi
This was a pretty good movie. Thanks for the share + corrected subs. What should I download next? o:)

zeinabqureshi (2010-05-10)

@portis: ~
First of all, thanks for downloading and then finding the good will to comment. I really haven't any idea which of the films you should next download...but there are few modern movies which have the sort of appeal Spoorloos holds out...it's all been commercialized beyond recognition, these were all "innocent" movies in a sense...Try 70's or 80's movies...best of luck!

tintinuk (2010-08-29)

Great stuff - many thanks!

scooterboobie (2010-08-29)

OOooohhh the original. Thanks a lot champ!!

Jack_Raiden (2011-10-23)

ZEiNAB and gracious seeders have kept this torrent alive for 3+ years. Bravo, and HUGE thanks! Quality f'n release.

dream7184 (2012-06-04)

Thanks! Excellent upload, great movie, fine quality, English subtitles work fine for me. I'm playing on VLC player.

judebd (2012-07-13)

Thanks a lot - great work.
Subs work for me.

carrie66 (2012-11-04)

Thanks so much! I heard this was a good movie...it works great! (I did get the corrected subtitles from subscenes.com) This was much better than the US remake. Thank you~

Cinesis (2015-05-13)
