"Yesterday" is a song by American R&B singer–songwriter Toni Braxton. The track is the lead single from her upcoming studio album, Pulse, which will be released February 2010. The remix version of the song features Trey Songz.
The song was released on Braxton's official website on September 29, 2009, after four years in hiatus. It is Braxton's first single released under Atlantic Records. The remix featuring Songz was made available on the U.S. iTunes Store on November 20, 2009. In the United Kingdom, the song will be released on February 22, 2010.
Braxton's promotion of the track commenced at the Soul Train Music Awards of 2009, along with Songz.
There are two version of the music video for "Yesterday": one for the remix featuring Trey Songz and one for the original solo version. Filming the video for the single started on October 8, 2009 in Los Angeles with director Bille Woodruff (known for such classic Braxton videos as "Un-Break My Heart" and "He Wasn't Man Enough"). Photos from the video were revealed on her official website on October 28 and show Braxton playing a piano, with a small wig and with Songz playing her boyfriend. The video premiered on The Wendy Williams Show on November 20, 2009. The video features singer Brooke Hogan as well as Shannon Brown, and Ron Artest from the Los Angeles Lakers. The video tells the story about a woman (Braxton), that discovers that her boyfriend (Brown) is cheating on her with another girl (Hogan).
"Yesterday" debuted at number ninety-six on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. On the issue dated January 2, 2010, the song made a massive thirty-nine-spot jump and has now peaked at number twelve, making it her highest chart performance since her 2000 single "Just Be a Man About It", which peaked at number six.
Toni Michelle Braxton (born October 7 in either 1968, 1967, or 1966) is an American R&B singer-songwriter and actress who enjoyed much success in the 1990s. Braxton has won six Grammy Awards and has sold over 48 million records worldwide. Braxton has a contralto vocal range.
Braxton topped the Billboard 200 with her 1993 self-titled debut album and continued that streak with her second studio album Secrets, which spawned the number-one smash hits "You're Makin' Me High" and "Un-Break My Heart". After filing for bankruptcy, Braxton returned with her chart-topping third album, The Heat. Her most recent albums were More Than a Woman, her last release under the Arista label, and Libra, her first and only release on Blackground. Recently, she returned to the spotlight with "Yesterday", a #12 R&B hit which serves as the first single off her new album planned for February 2010.
Braxton was involved in the 7th season of the reality show Dancing with the Stars. Her professional partner was Alec Mazo. She was voted off in week five of the competition.
