There seem to be ghosting like effects with fast moving objects. I had no such problems with my old 'complete buffy' but that was lower rez and no subs. Both workstation (x2 4600, geforce 8800) and laptop (M 1,7, geforce 6400), vlc/mplayer.
Can something be done/is it only me?

This is taken from a PAL source, which appears to be frame blended.
This isn't the encoders fault, but personally, I can't stand frame blended stuff, and I would warn anyone else who doesn't away.
It's a shame really, this is nice modern release (h264/aac/mkv) ruined by a crappy source.

These are in PAL format, and I'm not sure if it's the source DVDs or just playback on my machine, but the audio is noticeably higher pitched than it should be, since the framerate of PAL is slightly different than NTSC used here in North America.
It's easy to fix this at playback time using mplayer, just add the flag:
-speed 0.96
to your playback arguments.
Various mplayer guis should have options for playback speed as well.

and if you capped your upload uncap it thats what slowing your download im downloading 300kbs and still holding some time gose upto 500kbs with an upload speed f 60 to 70 kbs with it caped at 200kbs try this and it should start working

Not all the episodes work - some won't open at all and others freeze up, like a scratched dvd so I can't watch them. Gee I'm glad I only selected a third of the episodes so it wouldn't take so long, what a disappointment. But the ones I've seen have me hooked again! Think I'm going to have to save up and buy this one.

I did find the resi abit stupid thou, going to have to use some software to correct that and also the subs are a little bitch as they are encoded into the video file but again easy to remove with software. Thank you for the effort in the upload of this massive file, where people rip you and complain i'd rather appreciate i'm getting this for free. Hey! I downloaded this before and then I decided to go ahead and purge my system for non-related reasons. Anyways, I'm back trying to download this. I understand that this dl will take a long time and have discovered the importance of dling smaller chunks. Anyways, I really love Buffy and the extras, so I'm willing to be as patient as possible. Can someone please send me a link to some information beyond the basics about torrenting. For instance, does dling stuff on itunes and importing cd's onto itunes slow down a torrent client? I'm only dling the unaired pilot right now and it's saying it's going to take 8+ hours. That can't be right. I'm sure it'll speed up eventually. Also, if possible, do these come with the episode commentaries, cause I don't remember and I don't see them listed. If they do could someone tell me which season 5 eps have commentaries, cause I already have season 5 on Itunes (got anxious for my Buffy fix). I really would like the full seasons plus extras of Whedon's shows before November when my boyfriend gets home. Also, I'm dling from a computer with a wireless connection. I'm assuming (4-5 bars). I'm assuming this plays a significant role in speed as well. My ISP is Qwest DSL (my mom's internet). I was thinking of getting myself comcast cable, but hear that they throttle seeds. Is that bad, can I still download? I understand seeding is important. I wish I knew more.

Okay, for those of you having a tough time with this due to the size, you can easily get around that.
I personally use Transmission for my client, and that allows you to see a list of all the files, their individual completeness as well as prioritize them in relation to each other. Once a file is at 100%, it is good to watch. Thus you can have one torrent and put high priority on the next season, and progressivly lower priority's on further seasons. That way, your program will get the next season the fastest, and you'll be able to watch it sooner. Meanwhile, should that season complete while you are not paying attention, it will automattically continue to get future seasons (as well as help distribute the previous seasons).
I'm sure other clients have similar functionality; just make use of it intelligently and all will work out.

got S1-3 from the iND Release and 4-7 from this one. quality is okay although it should be noted that these seasons are encoded with an anamorphic resolution - correct AR on PC is no problem however my BR-Player displays it wrong (in the original AR 5:4).
720x400 would have made more sense quality wise (higher Bits/Pixel*Frame) - really good video quality (provided the source was good) has a QF of at least 0.20 or 0.25 - this one has about 0.14 - I'm a fan of anamorphic encoding but in this case/with this filesize it doesn't make much sense. still the quality is ok - thx for sharing!

Everything has been good except that now that I'm on Season 6 there is some sort of a skip starting at episode 3.
Its like there was a scratch on the dvd and it will play a few minutes and then the program will shut down. Uber annoying.

First off, I do appreciate the time and effort of putting all this together.
I've downloaded the first few episodes, and I'm shocked at the low quality here. I mean, its watchable but I've never seen a DVD rip that looked this poor and blurry. That makes it all the more surprising given how large each file is. These are each around 460-470 megs per episode. I've seen DVD rips and TV rips that are a hundred megabytes smaller and vastly superior in quality.
Never mind the fact that the download is SOOOO slow. Granted, since I'm stuck tethering to my phone, I only average about 250-300 kb/s, but this torrent has yet to reach 10 kb/s.

The video quality is excellent, the picture is sharp and clear, a bit dark on a pc but that's cos it was meant to be watched on a TV with 16-235 levels not 0-255,
Video is h264 with a high profile @L5.1 ~1400kbps,
The audio is a bit too compressed it's AAC HE VBR ~90kbps.
The mkv files have 7 embeded subs (Vobsub) the default is Danish, but English are included just disable subs or set your player to prefer Eng subs.
about the skipping your pc is too slow try CoreAVC for decoding.
As I've newer watched this I have to say tanks to the ripper/uploader/seeders I'll seed as long as I can

The video quality is NOT low. The first few seasons of Buffy have horrible video quality no matter what because of the way it was shot/filmed. You won't get any better than this torrent no matter what you do; you can't make a blurry, low-rez original any better by ripping it. I have bought both the US and EU DVDs and the quality is the same as this torrent.

The PAL-DVDs actually suck quality wise. I had both versions but only kept the RC1 versions.
I like the 16:9 format of season 4-7 of the PAL dvds but they are blurry as hell - no fun to watch.
The only thing that bugs me about the DVD versions - those fucking menus and that I have to change the disks all the time. Would rather watch from HD...

^ Must be your DVD player, because the PAL DVDs are much higher quality and not blurry at all. I have all seasons in multiple formats, and PAL is the best. I have the PAL DVDs, the Box Set, the fat set, and the slim set, and the PAL DVDs are the best out of those 5.
This torrent, seasons 1-3 are awful and unwatchable because they were ripped incorrectly and thus are really blurry. Seasons 4-7 are fine, though.

I watched ep. 401 and couldn't get the right display proportions: 16/9 is too wide & 4/3 too narrow so I finished it using 14/9 but the characters still looked weird.
Anamorphic encoding doesn't make sense in the age of such big .mkv files anyway. It's work to make and play them so don't do it. Thanks.

Yet more proof that there's nothing more subjective than video quality. It's all based on each individuals expectation, which in turn is based on their knowledge of the subject. There are still some people out there who believe that if you re-encode/upscale a 480p file up to 1080p size, you get a true full-HD picture. Duh!
Anyway, I'll just throw my hat in the ring and confirm that you shouldn't expect much in the way of video quality since the original source material is low quality to start with. BTVS was never filmed in digital (as far as I know) and certainly not in HD.
I can't comment on the debate about PAL vs NTSC as I got the whole Buffy series a few years back from a different torrent (NTSC, 640x480 and 652x352 avi) which has since died. Then I had a long job getting subs from elsewhere and syncing them. At least this torrent has synced subs.
On the overall size, yes, the files in this torrent are under-compressed. I took all the avi's from my collection and re-encoded them to mp4 with Handbrake using CRF=20, frame-lookahead=40, AAC@128kbps. So no visible loss of video quality. I also used the opportunity to get rid of black bars on the sides - a typical annoyance with DVD-rips where the ripper hasn't bothered to reframe exactly around the actual picture. File sizes ended up at anything between 200 and 300MB (I'm assuming you know the principles of constant rate encoding with x264) so the complete series ended up at 36.2MB. That's only about half the size of this torrent. The 440MB file sizes here are just a waste.
Jeez, the same thing with most 720p and 1080p scene rips. They could be much smaller. It all depends on image size (a 2.35 movie uses up less space than a 1.85 movie, for example) and the amount of action. Also crisp color images encode better than blurry black and white - go figure. Multiply all that out across the planet and you could save a good 30% of worldwide torrenting bandwidth, not to mention the saving on depleting resources to manufacture hard drives for storage.

@DarkSnyper88 Probably because it's nearly 70GB and doesn't have a ton of seeders? But anyways, I'll be doing the same (though in parts, don't have enough spare space on my HD to have the whole thing DL'd at the same time).

Size is a little larger than necissary but worth it for the most comprehensive DL available. Subs are good and A/V quality is Prime for Retro entertainment!
