Hotel Terminus - The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie (1988, Marcel Ophuls)

English hard subtitles Klaus Barbie (born 1913 near Bonn in Germany) was an SS-officer and the commandant of the secret Nazi police Gestapo in Lyon (German-occupied France) where he resided in Hotel Terminus. There he and his Gestapo underlings conducted their interrogations of detainees. Torture was applied on a regular basis (beatings, drowning, burning, ice baths, forced watching of relatives or friends being tortured, etc.). Many victims report that Barbie seemed to get a kick out of inflicting pain on them. Barbie was known as the "butcher of Lyon". Hotel Terminus became a symbol of the last stop before death and for the total loss of humanity. The film shows interviews with Barbie's victims, class mates, neighbours, subordinates, sympathisers and business partners. Klaus Barbie is a HeimStadtPolizei (Gestapo) man serving
In outpost earning his monthly salary to support his family.
A uniformed officer working for a satanic
Rule.He is a hitler supporter. naturally anybody in 1930s would because
Hitler reversed Germany from brink of economic collapse to
1936 Berlin Olympics pride though only to throw germany in a greater abyss later.
If Klaus doesn't perform the duty set out by nazis of rounding up
able bodied people of particular race in occupied territory
and sending them to work in camps he would be courtmartialed
and executed.All he knows is that he is sending people to camps
For work in " arbeit macht frei" (work makes freedom) spirit.
His knowledge of inner workings of camps and the inhuman
horror committed there is not established. Noone in Germany,
Outside nazi party top people and the guards who ran the
Camp, knew of the inhuman crimes committed to innocents in the camps.
Not even the newspapers with offices in the shortest distance to the camps.
This is a million time corroborated truth from investigations and Nuremberg trials.
So how can you justify killing a man like Klaus Barbie who just
took orders and deported people to work. Instead what must have been done is get him to
work 16hours a day in his expertise in intelligence gathering without a single holiday and send half of his pay to His victims every month till he dies. Pulp him by constant work day in and day out without rest like the camps he sent people to. Then he would have known "Arbeit Macht Frei" ( Work makes freedom) is bullshit and that Human life Is more precious than religion, culture or language and would have treated everyone Equally and never have boasted his wartime duty or flaunt the medals he won by sending innocent people to camps as is told grudgingly in the documentary. Instead all that was done was execution of an old man who would have anyway died in few years.

@documentarydownloads i totally agree. as horrific as it all was what do we do ? refuse and die ,leaving your family to be god knows what ,interred or killed ? it eventually became a revenge motivated hunt.by the time you relize whats going on your in to deep and cant get out. i know there were eveil men and women who deserved what they got but there were thousands who were just doing their job to survive this whole nightmare.
