Hmm, I'm afraid I can't help you there, I do not know how to encode hard subs, I've been told that it is not possible to do so using ffmpeg.
I am working on Volume 2 though as I speak, although it will be released in the same format. By the looks of it there isn't as many subs for that one if its any consolation.
