Description:

Less Than Zero (1987) Directed by Marek Kanievska Produced by Jon Avnet Jordan Kerner Marvin Worth Written by Harley Peyton (screenplay) Bret Easton Ellis (novel) Starring Andrew McCarthy Jami Gertz Robert Downey Jr. James Spader Music by Thomas Newman Cinematography Edward Lachman Editing by Michael Tronick Distributed by 20th Century Fox Release date(s) November 8, 1987 Running time 98 minutes Country United States Language English Less Than Zero is a 1987 film loosely based on the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. It stars Andrew McCarthy as Clay, a college freshman returning home for Christmas to find his ex-girlfriend (Jami Gertz) has been having sex with his high school friend who is also a junkie (Robert Downey Jr.) and being hassled by his dealer (James Spader) to whom he owes money. The movie presents a look at the culture of wealthy youth in Los Angeles and has a strong anti-drug message. Clay is a college freshman who returns home to Los Angeles, California, for Christmas to find things very different than the way he left them. His ex-girlfriend, Blair, has been having sex with his high school friend, the now junkie Julian, who is being hassled by his dealer, Rip, for the $50,000 he owes. What follows is Clay's effort to help clean up Julian, who has severed ties with his family because of his lying and stealing to fund his dependency on crack cocaine, smack and other hard drugs. Clay notices that Blair also has a smaller cocaine problem which accompanied her modelling career, and eventually realises that whilst he was gone Blair and Julian banded together while their lives spiralled slowly out of control. During Clay's visit back home, his relationship with Blair rekindles and Julian's attitude becomes more volatile — he was forced by Rip to become a whore in order to sustain his fixes. After one extremely drug-fuelled night, Julian decides to quit, and starts to make up with his father. Later on, however, he is tempted back once again into the seedy life he was trying to leave. Blair decides to get clean, also, and Clay rescues Julian, and after a final face-off with Rip, they escape Los Angeles. The three drive through the night, with Julian relinquishing promises of going clean again. Sometime the next day, Clay pulls over to find that the sleeping Julian has actually died of an overdose. Clay and Blair are then seen after Julian's funeral, where Clay tells Blair about the death of Julian's mother and how it affected him. Clay then tells Blair he is going back east and wants her to go with him; she agrees. The final scene of the film shows the couple leaving town and then the picture of Blair, Clay and Julian at their graduation. This is the last time the three are seen happy together. Is it just me or have you noticed serious sync issues with your download?
I was watching and the voices are so far off that it is impossible to even watch.

Thanks to the uploader, great qualtiy!
saxjonz: Yes, it's just you, check your players. I have never experienced that a "real" DVD (as this is) has bad synch. The reason for that is that the film is divided into 3 or 4 VOB files of approx. 1 Mb each which contain both picture and sound. A possible bad synch would be corrected the next time the player changes VOB file.
Bad synch only occurs sometimes when you are ripping a DVD into a smaller avi file. If someone tries to convert that avi file back to a "fake" DVD (with ConvertX to DVD or something like it), the bad synch will still be there and sometimes worse.
The smaller files available on the net are both incorrectly MASKED, meaning that half the quality is wasted on a huge black frame around the picture area.
