I've been using Live since version 5. When 7 was released, I was so amazed because of the speed. I was running it on 512MB of RAM and it was still like flash lightning. I'm sticking to 7 until the bugs are fixed and updates are available. Suite 8 is nice, but I prefer speed over fancy audio effects.

It doesn't seem like much of an update from Live 7 at first glance. But I have to say that this version of Live is so much better to work with. I've been using live 7 for over a year consistently, and it was hard at first for me to switch, but Live 8's Limiter and Multiband Dynamics have made this version so much more self-sufficient.
Plus I have my GUI set to 70-80% zoom so now I can fit so much more on the screen comfortably. Another thing is the vocoder tool is really cool! I always found myself using a million VSTs with live 7 but in L8 I find myself using the built in tools more than ever. I suggest the switch.

CHECK THIS OUT! Download the demo version of Live 8 from Abletons site and install it, along with all your VST's. Then remove it, and install the AIR version. The installer will detect that there already is a Ableton install directory (from the previous installation of the demo). Install it here! Now authorize it with the *.auz file. And vóila. Now all your VST's work. At least mine do!!

Install instructions. Unrar if you don't understand what unrar means, it means you need a prog. called Winrar. Once you have Winrar right click on the stack of books you just downloaded and select extract here. Run setup. Once setup is complete Close immediately. Open the Activation folder. Copy the black Ableton icon and paste it in the Ableton program folder. 99% of people can find this folder by going to my comp. then click on the C drive, then click on your program files folder, then click on your Ableton folder, then click on the program folder and paste. Then go back to your original download and click the authorizelive8 ableton live 8 authorization file. Then go to star, programs, ableton and open and enjoy. If you still can't get it to work it may be due to previous attempts to get ableton to install and you will need to uninstall the ableton and delete all of the ableton program files and then start at the beginning. just downloaded this torrent. have opened a number of the long list of rar files titled a-as801. These rar files open to a setup.exe which can be unpacked but only leads to a win rar diagnostic message which reads...
cannot execute "c:\user etc local\temp\rar$00.710\setup.exe"
anyone understand why the .exe is not able to be opened and only brings up this error message?

Although this is such an easy process I just cant understand why people have trouble getting this to work.
@ relectr0: r00 is one of the option given in the dropdown. The other one u would surely find is select 'all files' option, select that & u would now see the rest of the zipped files. Now select the next one & now u'll see the unzipping progress as 2% subsequently keep doing that till 99 zip folders & u'll reach 100% after that be patient, depending on your computer speed the installer would appear & after the regular installation process u will now open the software, there it'll install all the library stuff & u will be notified that it is a 14 day trial & cant export or save files. Close the software. Now again unzip the first zip file -> unzip the a-as801.rar folder -> Double click on Authorize Suite 8. Immediately the Live software will open & inform you that the authorization was successful!!
This is the most obvious process I've mentioned, nothing technical at all coz I'm not one! So go ahead try it.. I'm sure it'll work :)

This comment is essentially for those who have lives outside of learning uber-nerd computer jargon and ridiculous cracking/installing techniques. There's nothing wrong with not knowing this stuff and asking for help - and I suspect that part of the reason tpb users get so upset when someone asks for help is because they have a bad case of adolescent egocentrism and assume that because they know this stuff, that everyone else should to (as if all our lives were identical). The truth is, there are more important things in life and some of us can't spend the time on the computer that it would take to learn all of this stuff. At any rate, everyone here was once completely ignorant of this stuff, so it makes no sense to shit talk those of us who don't know what to do.
Now, to help those specifically who are running into the problem of a "corrupt" rar file, I got this and then I figured out what to do.
1.You need to extract the contents of all of the zipped folders to the original parent folder.
2.To do this I used 7zip so I wouldn't have to do it manually.
3.Use 7zip's internal file browswer, go to the Ableton folder and select all of the zipped folders. Right click and select "Extract Here". You should see the parent folder fill up with a bunch of "rXX" files (the x's standing as numbers).
4.Now you should be able to extract the rar file with no problems. It will produce a Setup file. Run the set up and install.
5.After installing, go back to the folder and run Authorize Suite 8.auz.
And that's it. I hope this helps someone - and it really was no trouble at all to write this.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! This download installs and works great BUT it doesn't seem to have a preferences file. My info view doesn't APPEAR; A simple fix for this is go in and erase preferences.cfg but there is no such file with this crack. I have tried reinstalling but nothing seems to work, HELP ME PLEASE!

Here's my problem, when I unpack the .RAR (we're past the .ZIPs at this point) It asks for an "a-as801.r00," which doesn't actually exist. This only affects the unpacking of the setup.exe, which is the most important. I'm not a fucking noob, and this is pissing me off

@monckey4. May have fixed your problem dude. If you're using winrar instead of selecting a single rar on the first extraction, select them all, right click and extract. Then follow through with the rest of the steps of the extraction. No idea if this will work for you but I had the same problem and with some trouble shooting that worked.

First of all, RAR-splitting is a really bad iddea in the BitTorrent community. It adds a lot of overhead and unnecessary work for the downloaders. BT uses a superior fragmentation technique.
Secondly, zipping every RAR fragment is even more stupid.
That said, to extract the two (2) files that are hidden in those 99 files, you first select all the files with extension ZIP. The easiest way to do this is probably to delete the FILE_ID.DIZ and the AIR.NFO files and then click Ctrl-A.
Now right-click anywhere amongst the selected files and chose "Extract here" (assuming you have WinRar installed).
You may get a pop-up window asking you if you want to overwrite a file -- if so select "Yes to all".
Now you will have 101 new files in your folder, but now you can right-click on any of those files with the extension .Rxx where xx is a number, and then once again select "Extract here".
Now you will finally have the two files you want. Setup.exe and Authorize Suite 8.auz.
The rest is easy and strightforward. Just doubleclick on Setup. Answer some questions and then wait for the install to finish. This will take less than a minute.
After successful install the program will exit. Now all you have to do is launch the authorzation script, Authorize Suite 8.auz, by double-clicking on it and after a few seconds Ableton will start up, showing you that authorization was successful.
The rest is simply music... :)

Wasted my time on this. It keeps stalling out during installation. As soon as it starts to copy the User Manual .pdf file it just stalls and I have to use task manager to get it to quit. I unzipped all the pain in the ass folders and extracted the .rar. I see some others have had similar problems but the only one who offered a solution just basically said he tried it again and it decided to work. Mine won't :( Any ideas ppl?

One of the few advantages with packing a file with RAR is that, if the unpack is successful, you can be sure that you've got a clean copy of the files (Setup and Autorize).
So if you have a problem after that, it's your computer setting that is to blame. Some ideas:
1. You are trying to install the program in a folder that you don't have the proper rights to.
2. You are installing to or from e.g. a network drive that is too slow, or in some other way defunc.
3. You have a RAM chip or HD problem.
4. You don't have enough space to spare on your HD.
5. You have some other application running that is blocking a DLL or similar that Setup needs to install.
And I can think of at least half a dozen other similar problems. It's impossible to give a general solution to your problem unless you detail your setting. And even then probably not without lots of feedback -- far beyond the scoop of torrent comments like this.
Sorry. Try another computer and/or another OS.
