Description:

Garmin Language Guide Requirements: Garmin Nuvi Series 3XX, 6XX, 7XX, 8XX and 5000 Overview: The optional Garmin Language Guide contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank and five bilingual dictionaries (with data provided by Oxford University Press). It replaces the "Lite" version installed on the Nuvi. The multilingual word and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Using the Language Guide, you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language. And with Nuvi text-to-speech interface, you can get a spoken pronunciation of each word or phrase in the data bank, along with gender and part-of-speech information. N.B. I've carefully read the whole Garmin Travel Guide: Europe post (by the way: I tried to install that Travel Guide on my Nuvi 760 with NO success... :? ) and I think this is more or less the same case. I don't have the possibility to prove, as I got the original (buyed) product, installed first on my "old" Nuvi 360 and now on my new Nuvi 760; so, good luck to all Ignore the modified Jetmouse 1.3 keygen that is floating around. It doesn't have the Language Guide ID menu.

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but I managed quite easily to use the other torrent - on my Nuvi. Been working for months...
Steps are:
1. get a _decent_ SD card
2. Use the diagnostics screen on the Nuvi 760 (press and hold battery) to get the 10 digit SD card ID
3. Use the _modified_ Jetmouse 1.3 posted (this modifies the PID to 2. Use map ID 900) - alternatively use Jetmouse 1.5
(http://thepiratebay.se/tor/4182602/Garmin_Keygen_v1.5)
which allows you to to change the PID - change it to 2 - map ID must be 900.
4. Put the LEX_PKG folder under Garmin folder ON SD CARD - not internal drive
5. Change .unl file with code generated by Jetmouse
6. Switch on 760, and it will prompt you to install - let it install.
DONE!
Not that complicated? Just ask if you're not getting it right - but don't tell others that their uploads don't work when they do...
If you have any problems - shout, I'll take you through it.

I see Shareall's original post is no longer up- great that you posted this, appreciated.

Newb787 (2008-07-27)

Zorkin, it's safe to safe that what works for some doesn't work for others, and vice versa ie. what doesn't work for some doesn't work for others. Stop being so critical of people if something doesnt work for them and it works for you.

jspectre (2008-07-27)

tried to load this one, 3 diff SD cards. power up the 760 and it asks if i want to replace the dictionary. i say yes. and the system reboots. doesn't install. any ideas..?

lemclub (2008-07-30)

I had same problem as jspectre loading Language guide. I copied all files & unload file per instructions to SD card & powered up my nuvi760 and it asked if I wanted to replace the dictionary. I answered yes. and the system rebooted. Same message came up again & again, but file did not intall. Another thing, all my data were reset, favorites erased. Please help, anyone.

Pleppen (2008-08-01)

I'm experiencing the same problems as lemclub and jspectre did. When starting up, the 760 asks me if I want to replace the dictionary and then reboots.. this keeps happening.. what to do?

jspectre (2008-08-01)

yep. mine reboots and loses all settings, saved routes, etc. :(

lemclub (2008-08-01)

Guys, I solved the problem by trial & error. Insert the SD card & connect your Nuvi to your computer & then boot up. You'll be asked the same question, but this time the language guide will install. Best of luck..

Pleppen (2008-08-01)

lemclub's thing seems to be working for me too!
The system is fucked up from all the rebooting faults though...
but good tip!

Pleppen (2008-08-01)

Nope, I'm still having problems... I get filetransfer error, please re-install everytime, and the the system reboots... again...

lemclub (2008-08-01)

My 2 cents.....once you installed the language guide to the nuvi internal memory, don't insert/use the SD card with language file again. If you do, it will screw up & start reinstalling.

zip612 (2008-08-04)

Okej! This is not working.Mine reboots and loses all settings, saved routes. Please help, anyone.

Zorkin (2008-08-06)

zip612 - there's a quirk with th 7xx series - let the unit fully boot up, and then insert the card. If your gmapsupp.unl file is correct, it will instantly recognise the new software and ask you whether you want to install. When it's done, make sure you remove the SD card before the unit boots up again.

Zorkin (2008-08-06)

Newb787 - I'm all for helping out - I'm sure many people found my instructions upfront useful. I have no problem with somebody asking for help (unless it's already been answered, which happens often because people are just bloody lazy).
What I do have a problem with is telling others that something that works does not work - all this does is problem another couple hundred 'please help' posts. Jetmouse 1.3 modded works perfectly.

Newb787 (2008-08-13)

Just an FYI. I got the instructions and files from another site.
Had a bit of time to test things out.
The translation AUDIO files only work in English. for some reason. The default sample translations that come installed in your Nuvi are able to translate words and phrases in other languages other than English. I suspect the files don't have the audio translation for anything other than English.
If anyone knows where the complete files are locatred, please post.

Zorkin (2008-08-15)

Newb787 - make sure you have the relevant voice files loaded on the unit. These are the full files - compared with the original upload by Shareall - identical. All languages work on my install.

Newb787 (2008-09-29)

Zorkin. Are you saying language AUDIO translation works between the language files eg. english to french and french to english (vice versa)? Only in the DEMO mode do they work both ways for me. I have the Nuvi 350 and experienced the same with Nuvi 650.

Newb787 (2008-09-29)

Zorkin, you're a genius...anyone ever tell you that? You're right, I had most of my voice files removed. Now, the translation works both ways. :)

Zorkin (2008-10-08)

No worries Newb787 - glad you got it working. Enjoy learning how to order a cappucino in Italian, French, Portuguese and German! ;-)

cuich (2008-10-11)

Lemclub How did you manage to restore the language guide once reinstalled and given the copy error, please reinstall.... I am exactly on that problem and have not had any luck to make it work again!!
It was working and now it is not!!
Please any help would be valuable

meme nin (2009-01-12)

it's great work
have you got an Arabic Language please ??
thx

theanarchist (2009-02-19)

Instructions that were included in the torrent worked fine for me 770. The install screen actually specifically says to not have it connected to your PC while doing this. Just needed to turn it on with the configured SD card in it.

freshus (2009-03-09)

I followed the instuctions in the first post which were the same as the notes that came with the torrent, and i have a problem. Any of the phrases that i pick in the program comes up with a message "unable to load language" What am I doing wrong. In the garmin folder I have the file with the key, and another folder LEX_PKG. In the Lex_pkg file there is also more folders that i didn't touch. Can someone please help [email protected]
Thank You

Works great on a Nuvi 660. Installed it onto the unit itself using zorkin's directions and a Kingston 2GB SD card. Thanks for the Upload.
Card also worked for the Europe 2009 City Navigator and Travel Guide

snark1280 (2009-04-17)

NOTE: If you have older version of your NUVI software, you might want to keep it- or at least back it up.
The latest Garmin webupdater will install the latest software on your Nuvi, but it may also break some of your stuff (dictionary, travel guides whatever- they don't work in 4.7- even store bought ones- see the GPS sites)
For the 760, the latest software update broke the language guide (and a few other things) IF you did not back up, look here for a previous version of your software:
http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/nuvi/

(thanks Perry- sorry for the bandwidth hike)
TO CLARIFY The latest FIRMware updates DO seem to work better than the old ones on my 760, but I went back to the 4.2 SOFTware package to get everything else working again.
PS: I am not sure if this is the same for all NUVI's or not, but I thought I would share what I found a 760- YMMV- Good luck...

cassiniman (2009-06-06)

No problems loading on a Nuvi 760 as long as you have more than 70 meg of internal memory free - otherwise you will get 'file copy error, please reinstall'. Just delete some unused voice files or vehicles - Zorkin's install notes work fine - good download

Lornts (2012-11-06)

works greate on nuvi 1360 and 1490T
