This dramatisation of John Le Carré's novel proved a landmark in British television. It received supreme critical acclaim for the screenplay by Arthur Hopcraft, the star Alex Guinness and the camerawork of Tony Pierce-Roberts. In Alex Guinness's first major TV role he plays George Smiley, a retired agent who is secretly brought into "the Circus" (the code name for British Secret Intelligent Service) to root out a top-level mole. Gradually piecing together the story, the weary but determined Smiley trawls through the murky waters of Cold War espionage and his own past.

Seed please in the name of all that's good and holy! Stuck at 98.3%! :'(
The transfer they did on these DVDs is rubbish, seems straight from VHS. I just found out there's a new film with Gary Oldman as George Smiley in the works, so hopefully that will bring some more attention to this fantastic series and we can get a better release in the future. 'Till then, I'll be acquiring this via torrent.

Excellent did not catch this on TV the first time round . thought i watch since the movie versions coming out to see if it it misses anything out.
