Does this game not suport ATI X1950 cuz i downloaded the GTI version a while ago and it didnt, seems stupid cuz my x1950 still plays all new games at high settings. i wanna play this so bad but i aint buying new hardware just for 1 game. Its as daft as Vista only games!!!!

Robin, I have the same problem. Nothing extracts anywhere I put it. Instead it all stops when I get the DX error you have.

Hey guys, I had the same problem but I fixed it.
You have to update your directx. It helped for me. I typed directx10 in google and got some directx updater. Now it works.
Now I have a problem..
In the beginning of the game you have to get a code to open the door to a kid named Josh..
When I have the code and open the door, the game crashes.. It happens everytime I try.
Anyone has a solution to this problem?

If you get the DXSetup.exe error when you extract you need to extract it to a location with no spaces in the file path, for example like this.
"c:\silenthill"

Right, I got it:
Follow the instructions, unRAR, mount and burn
You go to the CD Drive and explore the CD, find the ViTALiTY folder
Right click and chose "Run as Administrator" (on Vista anyway) and then chose a directory with spaces. I made a SilentHill (no spaces in folder name) folder in the C:/ drive (so C:/SilentHill)
It should open a black prompt and extract something, this'll take quite a while.
Once it's done you will get a DirectX thing, install it and whatnot and that'll finish the install
(if you don't get the DirectX thing after making chosing a directory without a space in, try downloading DirectX10 (google it) and then try it.)(Also you need about 9GB free space before you extract)
After that you find where you extracted it to, open the folder, create a desktop shortcut for the SilentHill.exe and then when you open that, it should open the game.
The game will take a while to open on it's first go.
If anyone else has problems, just say and i'll try to help. Make sure you read this first though.

BEWARE: VIRUS. Contains mebroot rootkit/trojan in install.exe extractor - check using http://virusscan.jotti.org/en yourself. To remove you must use fixmbr and replace your master boot record.

just like christhomson said its pretty simple really The vitality folder. instead of double clicking the INstaller.exe you right click and run as admin. I have win7 and it works.

Unfortunately the game is buggy and not playable. Ingame, the back button never works. Also when there are two buttons to press the second choice never works. As a result, at the very beginning of the game I cannot put the second part of the x-ray on the board to find out the lock's password because the inventory button does not work. Plus, I pick up the second piece of the x-ray but it is not in my inventory or journal. I also encounter crashes when Alt+Tabbing
