ENGLISH Google translation : Chronicle written by François-Xavier Rougeot Thursday, July 12, 2007 Released last month, "Made in Jamaica" portrays a paradoxical Jamaica, torn between poverty and wealth of musical people, between the ancient heritage and forward to the next generation. His BO naturally the same. Two volumes for two sides: one side roots reggae, held by the glorious "old" (Bunny Wailer, Gregory Isaacs ...), the other a compilation of dancehall tracks, led by some of the masters of the genre ( Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man ...). We have not seen or "Made in Jamaica" to Laperrousaz it quickly plunges into the atmosphere of contemporary Jamaica through the forty tracks, all unreleased because specially canned for this docudrama, and they are also the unique words. But we must recognize that listening to "Made in Jamaica" is more exhilarating when you have already heard from his seat, the musico-social patchwork exposed for two hours by Laperrousaz. The report-its image of "Made in Jamaica" is such that images parade as and as we listen to each of the two compilations. And the soundtrack works like the film. Some excerpts mark the listener more than others. Often the same elsewhere. Thus, Old man's soul, family duet between Cat Coore, who made her cry celo (sort of cello) on the heavy bass of his son Shiah, gives many chills as the image, where the first is a proud look on the second, before the parade the dark streets of Kingston. It also remembers Vybz Kartel in a nightclub, surrounded by nymphs, selling his texts on Emergency and screaming Sirene Riddim "both parties are singing the same old story - the poor have nothing, the money on the lam - they increase petrol and tobacco - why wages do not increase? Later, on a beach between pretty girls and badmen, Kartel affix its relevance to the roots riddim We a Kill We ( "We will kill myself"), where he works to expose the inconsistencies of his country's economic including the proliferation of weapons in a country that does not produce one. Besides the classical (400 years of Bunny Wailer, 96 ° of the Third World, Toots 5446), we revel in some beads, such as superb Temptation of Gregory Isaacs and Celebrate Life by Beres Hammond. As cinema, it denotes some duds (Buynny Wailer and his recovery very special I Shot the Sheriff, in particular), but the vocal power of Bounty Killer (Talk to them on Anger Management), energy Elephant Man ( Make your Body Bounce) or the malice of Joseph Current, which shot by gunmen the verb (Mister Man Gunner), enable "Made in Jamaica" to maintain consistency. And even a touch of fantasy when Elephant Man begins to sing (?) Jamaican anthem ...
