HDD Health (freeware, but check it!)
Category:
Applications/Windows
Uploaded:

Description:
Freeware: http://www.pantera.com
How you know that all data you downloaded is safe from hdd-crasches?
Try this to increase safety:
"HDD Health is a full-featured failure-prediction agent for machines using
Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 and XP. Sitting in the system tray, it monitors
hard disks and alerts you to impending failure. The program uses
Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new
hard disks, and can predict failures on your hard drives. A host of alerting
features include email, local pop-up messages, net messages, and event
logging, while using no system resources."
And I still know that its freeware and can be downloaded at www.pantera.com
But I still think people need to know about it. Maybe it rescues someone?s
data.
(But the best is still regular backups)

It is a program that supervises the function on newer HDD.It use a function that is built in newer HDDs but Windows (And Linux) do not support it.
For example it measure temperature and Power On Hours on your disks.

I used this for a while, and it works fine, but gobbles memory. It used 40MB RAM on my computer, and when I sent info and documentation on this to the makers they just said "we've never heard of anything like this". Well...now they have. Don't know if this is fixed.patatra (2006-01-06)
It's www.panterasoft.com :) or do you mean the rockband? The current build is from 2003 (!) and it's not very accurate at reading the S.M.A.R.T. values. Good thing you're concerned about people's data though :)
