Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band - Hip Shakin', Soul Breakin

Sorry I messed up on my previous upload. Hope this works. I am going on vacation for three weeks starting tomorrow - so if you get a full download please SEED so others can get this. I dug it out of my CD archives - This is a CLASSIC of Geno Washington - recorded in the Sixties and released in 1988. Impossible to get anywhere AFAIK. Despite the album title, half of this compilation is made up of studio recordings. To add confusion, the back of the CD case gives an alternative title (The Best of Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band). The compilation kicks off with three medleys where Geno and the Ram-Jammers deliver energetic performances of some Stax R&B standards by the likes of Redding, Pickett, Cropper, Floyd, Hayes and Porter. The performances are suitably electric, but the recording is a little raw and the crowd noise a bit too intrusive. The quality of the studio recordings is higher, but some of then lack the vitality of the live recordings, which only serves to support the view that Geno was at his best on stage. The best of these are "Que Sera Sera", "You Got Me Hummin'", The Motown sounding "Michael (The Lover)", "Knock on Wood" and "Water". While the music is enjoyable enough, the package is poorly produced, lacking recording or release dates for the tracks. Mr Washington is one of the best live acts I have seen. That was at college in the early 80s, soon after his career was resurrected by the Dexy's single bearing his name. I had never seen anything like it and the energy was infectious. 1.
