Neo-Cons are not traditional conservatives. A true conservative movement is dead or at least in a coma. Paleo-Conservatives and/or Libertarian-Conservatives no longer are in control of the Republican party
Instead the party is in the hands of Neo-conservatives which are neither republican (little r) or conservative. This is not the same party of Goldwater or Reagan.
The majority of Neo-cons were old school liberals who found that the New Left counterculture of the 1960s had taken over their Democratic party so they transitioned to the right, They tend to be socially conservative so this was their link to the right. Unlike traditional conservatives, they have no problem with big government and spending. They are confused as pro-military when they are really pro-war to expand an economic empire.
