Great up, but I just finished downloading myst masterpiece edition and installed and it's not working. It starts up and I get sound and the cursor, but no other visuals. I've opened it in all windows compatibilities and it doesn't work in any of them. Does anyone have any ideas about fixing this problem? I'll post any info you need to help.

DragonBice (2009-12-06)

Same problem as the two other guys. Please help us fix this :\

DragonBice (2009-12-06)

I know how to solve the problem now :D
You have to DOWNGRADE QuickTime to the version that comes with the torrent. Go to control panel ---> Add/Remove programs ---> Select QuickTime and remove it ---> Install the version from the torrent.
Do that and it should work fine, no need for any compatability modes or resolution changes.

unknowndeviant11 (2009-12-08)

That's rather awkward; never got that far. Sorry for that, guys.

DragonBice (2009-12-08)

Well, I just finished MYST (it was a lot easier this time around than when I was like, nine-ten years old^^) and I started with RIVEN. 1st of all, I had to put RIVEN in compatability mode for Windows 95 (unlike MYST, which is kind of weird...) to be able to start it once installed. However, I encountered another problem while trying to save my game; I hit "Save Game" and the RIVEN closes. In the "Readme.txt" file, in the "Troubleshooting" section, there's a line saying: "Due to improvements made to the game, saved games from the
CD-ROM version of Riven can not be used by the DVD-ROM version.". I have no clue whatsoever if this has anything to do with the problem at hand though. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or am I the only one experiencing this problem?
/Bice

DragonBice (2009-12-21)

OK, I know of a way that would probably get rid of all problems with running RIVEN (and alot of other old games) on "newer" PC's.
1. Download and install Virtual PC 2007
2. Download and install Windows 98 - !! ON THE VIRTUAL COMPUTER CREATED WITH VIRTUAL PC !!
3. Install RIVEN on the virtual machine
4. Play, have fun!
In most cases, you don't have to do this but I had problems with saving my game and my problem was quite rare and I couldn't find anyone (and I certainly looked) that had the same problem and fixed it with success. If you have tried everything and still experience problems, this is a good last resort option.

unknowndeviant11 (2010-02-23)

Any requests? Let me know: [email protected]

unknowndeviant11 (2010-02-23)

Thanks guys for helping each other out--I was not aware there were issues with this. Thanks DragonBice

throm (2010-03-13)

Whenever I try to go to a different age, the game crashes. Any thoughts?

Sonic98 (2010-03-16)

I only downloaded Myst III since I've already playedthe other two games. I had no problems with the download or install and no viruses

colapse (2010-06-03)

EXILE is not working for me in ma Mac. I'm using OSX 10.6.3.
I installed as the guide says, but it's always ASKING to insert the DVD (that's inside my Mac).
Any clue?
HELP PLEASE >.

L-jakim (2010-06-27)

@Colapse, I don't claim to be any computer expert of any kind, definitely not Macs. But are you sure you've mounted the iso file (With Daemon tools/magiciso) when you try to run the game? Because that should function as a virtual DVD being inserted.

Krakertje (2010-08-10)

Please Seed!!!!! its fucking slow :D

kauwlette (2010-08-10)

yo, will i be able to install the game in french?!
thx for seeds!

Jb1337 (2010-09-05)

I'm really having trouble finding the ISO's so I can mount them in daemon tools, can some one tell me where they are in the download?

milkkart (2010-10-15)

MerseaParadise (2011-03-15)

USELESS TORRENT. REQUIRES SERIAL NUMBER.
Do NOT DOWNLOAD
Do NOT SEED!

MerseaParadise (2011-03-15)

COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. DOESN'T WORK. DON'T DOWNLOAD, DON'T SEED!

zacrilege (2011-03-16)

MerseaParadise: Did you read any of the readme files? Or the comments? Or the instructions in the description? This torrent works fine and comes with everything neccessary to play these games. If it's not working for you, then you aren't following the instructions carefully enough, or haven't tried any of the many options that other users have mentioned. I realize the irony of this comment being more of a waste of my own time, but I don't think you should discourage others from downloading this; moreover, if anyone has enough of a desire to play these games (as I did) they will find the determination to get them to work (as I did).

kibbles0515 (2011-04-16)

Some notes: if you are running Mac OS X, you'll need to download Riven X (to play Riven). I'm not sure if Myst will work, but I can't seem to get Exile to work; it refuses to detect the disc image.

denbal87 (2011-05-01)

@DragonBice
You are right! I couldn't get Exile work on my vista, but it worked when I installed an XP with Virtual PC! Thanks!

Estariae (2011-05-19)

@kibbles0515
In the instructions for installing on a Mac, you have to copy the "data" folder into a new folder named "Exile DVD" that needs to be in the "Myst III" folder you were instructed to make.
The path should be:
/Myst III/Exile DVD/data
and NOT
/Myst III/data
Hope it helps

MadTogger (2011-05-24)

I had the same issue as a lot of people when trying to play MYST, black screen, hand cursor & sound only.
Tried lots of different fixes that didn't work but finally found one that did.
Take a look at this webpage:-
http://www.mystcommunity.com/board/index.php?/topic/29165-myst-masterpiece-edition-on-xp-help-please-black-screen/

Look for post #13 by Joyrock. Don't bother following all the instructions about compatibility tab etc, didn't work for me, just download the attached file.
Open your Windows/System32 folder and rename QuickTime.qts to QuickTime.qts.old and then copy the QuickTime.qts from the attachment into the System32 folder.
That is all I needed to do, nothing else and it works fine now.
It has something to do with iTunes using the newer QuickTime but even after doing this fix my iTunes is working perfectly.
Bear in mind that when iTunes updates this .qts file may get overwritten.
By the way my OS is Windows XP Pro SP3

l05tr1s (2011-06-14)

MerseaParadise
You are incorrect this torrent works fine if you follow the instructions and advice...
Thanks Unknowndeviant for this I have this game on order at present but wanted to remember what it was like I have 3 and 4 already.
I am having a little bother saving my game and it does seem to crash when I try to get to channel wood just after entering the code into the safe and lighting the furnace can anyone help with either of these problems please
Thanks

BurnWave (2011-08-19)

This is a brilliant torrent!
It works!

BurnWave (2011-08-19)

Oh And MerseaParadise, stfu!

jscherfjr (2011-08-20)

First off, let me say . . . great upload. This is amazing. I just recently started reading the books and wanted to replay the games. A huge shout-out to unknowndeviant11.
Other than that . . . is anyone else having a problem with Myst freezing up when you get to the light-house to enter the code?
I tried different compatibilities (only thing I could think of) but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

osetinka (2011-08-23)

Hey, if anyone has any problems running it on windows 7, run it in 256 colors. thats what i did and i works great

malachai32 (2011-10-20)

Installed all three and they seem to run OK under Windows 7 x64 without a compatability mode. Had to install QuickTime from the first Myst game though. Thanks for upload.

malachai32 (2011-11-02)

Spoke too soon. It locked up when I pulled the levers in the clock tower. I had to install the QuickTime files in the QuickTime 4 patch by following the link on this webpage:
http://www.mystcommunity.com/board/index.php?/topic/34853-myst-masterpiece-edition-and-windows-7/

a_of (2012-03-14)

Thanks.
I played the original Myst and then Riven several years ago. So many good memories.
I wanted to see how Myst III is. Let's check it.

TucoTruths (2012-06-27)

Thank you for sharing this.
I'm running Win7 64 bit. MadTogger's suggestion worked for me. The only thing I had to do differently was drop those two files in the c:\WindowsSysWOW64 directory rather than the system32 folder.
Clock Tower hang up no more.

hermeswayfinder (2012-08-16)

has anyone gotten myst or riven to work on mac os lion?

hermeswayfinder (2012-08-17)

soo lame lion doesn't support power pc games anymore!

jnikolow1 (2012-08-27)

When I got to play it says it is searching for the disc. Can anybody help please ???
Thanks, I'd really like to start playing!!

jnikolow1 (2012-08-27)

Let me clarify:
When I go to play it says to insert the disc. I hit "ok" and then it says searching for disc.
However, I obviously don't have the disc and therefore cannot play it .... how do I get around this??
Thanks!

jkohan (2012-08-27)

for people running windows 7,
make sure you uninstall quicktime and install the one provided in the torrent
go to bing and search for 'magic disk' and download it
extract the .iso file into a folder you can easily access but remember where the original .iso file is located
run setup and create shortcut on desktop
right click shortcut, click 'properties' then click 'compatibility' and make sure its set for windows 98/me and run in 256 color
right click magic disk, go to virtual cd/ dvd-rom and click it. then click mount, and search for the original .iso file corresponding to the game you are trying to play
play game and enjoy
it took me 5 hours to get here, it would play the first video, and then freeze. this should take care of all possible problems that could arise

zacosta (2012-09-12)

Can someone confirm if this works on Mountain Lion (i.e they have actually have gotten it running) and if yes, then would I need to install the mentioned RivenX.
Or am I better off just running it on bootcamp (W7 64bit)? Would it run decently on parallels?
Many thanks ahead

chaostastic (2012-11-08)

zacosta, There are different solutions for "Myst", Riven — of which I just finished end game on OS X Lion with excellent RivenX and Myst III. These are from different time periods so different strategies have evolved. Also what platform?
I just installed the universal installer for Myst III on OS X Lion. It runs, but there are some issues I know I need to work around later.

true2life (2012-12-15)

I'm trying to run Riven on Mountain Lion using VMWare's Virutal Disk, (Windows XP platform). I've gotten everything installed but now the "insert Disk" is preventing me from playing. Can this also be fixed using the Magic Disk?

true2life (2012-12-15)

Ok, So I kind of answered my own question. Riven is now working with the MagicDisk solution. The game is saving and loading properly. Only issue is the screen size and resolution. There is an in-game option to run 640x480 and that works best. Play area isn't full screen, but that's because Riven was made for square screens, not widescreen like the MacBook Pro. Happy Myst-ing!

lastar88 (2013-02-16)

Hi everyone I'll tell you how to run Myst and older versions are correct. Instructions for Windows Xp and it will probably work in newer versions of Windows. Take a deep breath :) proceed.
0. Set as Myst installer offers to drive C:. At establishing shortcuts on the Start menu, all programs on yalykah Myst click the right mouse button and select Properties => Compatibility => put the check run in compatibility mode and select Windows 98 / Windows Me, put the check below 256 colors and 640x480 pixel screen resolution and click apply. Prtseduru do with both labels and video game about the game.
1. Enable maximum performance to a more pleasant view mode 640/480/256tsvetov. To do this in Windows Xp need to click on the label my computer right click and click Properties => Advanced => Performance => click on the Options button, a window will appear on the Visual Effects tab, select "Adjust for best performance" and click apply. Including Classic design in windows 2000.
2. rename the virtual disk drive D:. To do this on the label my computer right click and select the control box will dig on it in the left column, select Disk Management. Next, click on the hard drive that imee letter D: Right-click and click change drive letter and put unused letter for the letter D. Next, click in the left column on our virtulnogo cdrom and also rename it in the letter D:. Now save the game should work. Reboot your computer and install the game image in a virtual drive with the letter D:. (I use alcohol 120%.)
3. Need to download it includes permission MultiRes what Windiws Xp blocked ie what we need
640/480/256tsvetov. You can download it at
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/multires.shtm
. After you install and run the program click on its shortcut in the system tray, right-click and select "About MultiRes" in it to remove the checkbox column "Windows XP Style" and click OK, and put the check "Auto load with Windows" to autorun for startup to make it convenient to use it. Next MultiRes in the permissions list, select 640/480/256tsvetov. Permission to change restart your computer and run the game now it should work as well and beautifully. P.S. do not worry about the strange colors of labels of different programs it is normal because it involved 256 colors because of which they have become so important that the game will show their colors correctly. To return to the resolution it can be put back in the program MultiRes and display properties.
Everyone all the best. lastar February 16, 2013.

I have windows 8 and I didn't have any trouble getting Myst up and running. It is the only one I have tried playing but I have run into some problems. First of all, the important hidden message didn't play, the videos in the books don't seem to exist, there's not even static. I got to the clock and tried to turn the gears but both times I tried, it froze up. Other than that, it was enough to make me buy this on ebay for $15. I'll try that out when it arrives and I'll let you know if it works better or the same. Until then, good luck!

monekins (2014-05-11)

Soooo It looks like the Microsoft monster is being greedy. If you have windows 8, it will not play older games, even games that have come out since Windows 95 (until about the XP era), they won't play.. Unless you spend the extra moneys on Windows 8 Pro! There's a program called Hyper V which comes with Pro and has to be enabled in order to play these older games. You cannot download Hyper V for regular windows 8. If you some how get these things working on windows 8 without the Pro, please let us know how. Pro costs an extra $200 :(

unknowndeviant11:
Thank you very much for your efforts.
A note for anyone who may have problems with the DVD Riven, after it is burnt...
I use Nero 10 and your results may differ from mine. The other two were done first, at 8x, so my first attempts with Riven were also at 8x. I went through 2 DVDs that didn't work correctly before trying 6x burning, the lowest speed the version of Nero I have offered. It cured the problem.
I was aware that too fast a burn is sometimes counter-productive. I didn't try any higher speed for the other two .ISOs, though it is just possible they may have worked. But, if something works, why mess around with it especially when it may cost another "bad" DVD to toss into the round file?

qwanzaden (2015-07-13)

YOU CAN GET THIS GAME TO WORK FLAWLESSLY ON WINDOWS 8.
On windows 8, you need to run a VirtualBox running windows XP, and then from inside windows XP mount a .iso file using a virtual clone drive, then install and play the game.
Steps:
Instructions for setting up virtual box -
http://lifehacker.com/5965889/how-to-run-windows-xp-for-free-in-windows-8

Download for VirtualBox (Win. 8 Users will want the option next to "VirtualBox 5.0 for Windows hosts") -
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Download for Virtual CloneDrive (Win. XP compatible) -
http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html
Setting up a shared folder between your main computer and Win. XP (to transfer the .iso files and Virtual CloneDrive installer to Win. XP) -
http://www.howtogeek.com/189974/how-to-share-your-computers-files-with-a-virtual-machine/

Transfer the .iso files to the VirtualBox Win. XP, run the Virtual CloneDrive installer in Win. Xp, mount and play the .iso files, and they *should* work!
NOTE: We have only tried this on Riven, which I played through to the end and worked perfectly.
