Playstation 2 PS2 Linux DVDs - For Testing

Category:

Games/PSx

Uploaded:

Description:

ISO images of the 2 DVDs in the Playstation 2 Linux kit for North America. These images are UNTESTED and have been posted for the PS2 hacking community to find a way to boot and install from them. The PS2 Linux kit was last produced by Sony in 2004. I have tried unsuccessfully to boot from DVD1 using Swap Magic 3.6 and a flip top case. Good luck and thanks for your help! Discussion thread to follow.

According to a different upload of the same DVDs, you need a modchip or to use the Action Replay Max exploit

I haven't tried it, but I have heard from someone else selling the kit that you need to hold R1 and select in order to boot on a TV screen.

Everywhere I read if you have a Slimline model SCPH-70000 or newer it won't work! Because there's no way to configure and install it with out a hard drive!!! And no where did it mention that Usb hard drives work!

SynMonger (2012-03-23)

The original retail discs ran on kernel 2.2 which has NO support for external USB hard drives. This means that slim PS2 cannot install linux using these discs.
It also required the network/IDE adapter from the kit to be able to get online, which you need to do in order to download the kernel modules to get the modem/network/IDE adapter to work.
If you were ever able to get that far, then you could set up the blackrhino 2.4 kernel that had usb storage support.
