avi files work with vlc players on computers, with select dvd players and with thumb/flash drives in select new somewhat higher priced hd tv sets like lg and samsung. Most of the cheaper sets like visio, sanyo and other lesser sets either don't play at all, or only play some of the universal digital internet video files. Visio flash/thumb players are so poor one can't predict which video files it will choose to play.
