Description:
The Littlest Hobo (1979 series) S03E14 DivX
The episode name is “The Clownâ€.
Based on some feedback about poor video quality on a recent upload, I am (for now anyways) switching from XviD to DivX formatted video files. While I gather that XviD is a somewhat more universal format, my current software seems to give a consistently better quality result with DivX. And I believe that for most people, DivX should work fine.
To see what I mean, take a look at the brief scene in the opening credits where Hobo is carrying the rifle in his mouth. The previously posted Littlest Hobo files that I have posted as XviDs have video problems at that point, whereas the DivX file at that point in this episode is essentially identical to the source recording.
If you have any feedback about video or audio quality in this file, I would be interested in hearing it.
Since I still have pretty much all of the source recordings for the uploads I have made, I am considering converting and uploading my previous uploads as DivX files.

peskyb:This one was recorded on a Motorola 6416 PVR, then copied to DVD via composite outputs. Then I used TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to read the DVD, edit out the commercials and encode to DivX.
When I posted The Chopping Block S01E01, I got some feedback that the XviD file looked pretty bad. And when I viewed it on a big screen TV, I found that to be true. After some experimentation, I discovered that TMPGEnc?s DivX gave a better looking picture than its XviD output. So I used DivX for this file.
Subsequently, I received some feedback on Mininova suggesting that I use AutoGK to convert to XviD. TMPGEnc's XviD output apparently had an interlacing problem (?) and XviD is I believe a preferred format vs. DivX. And I?ve found that AutoGK seems to produce nice output and handles a lot of processing automatically which removes a lot of guesswork for a novice like me.
I am still using TMPGEnc to remove the commercials and am using Mpg as a format to go between TMPGEnc and AutoGK.
Tangled web, eh? :)
Once I get this all mastered I guess I?ll go back and run the DVDs through the process and upload improved versions with REPACK in the name?
I'd love to just use my PC, but I've found that for some reason recording in Vista MCE using my Hauppauge card results in video that is very dark. Plus I can only pick up some channels using a direct coax connection.
Re the quality of Littlest Hobo specifically, even when it hits the TV right from the Motorola box, the quality isn't great. I guess that's what 30 year old video looks like.
Thanks for seeding!
