Can anyone explain step by step what to do for this?

There's something wrong.
Until now, the game was running smoothly, no problems at all. Finished the game, and never played again.
Today, I was going to play again, and I just got a black screen. I could hear the "Eidos" sound in the background. I tried Alt+F4 and nothing. ctrl+tab and nothing. ctrl+alt+del and the task manager wouldn't appear. I restarted the pc, tried again, and the same happened. Had to restart again, reinstalled, and the same happened!
When I was going to reinstall again, it asked for Disk1 to install (that didn't happen before). Any ideas?
I am running WinXP.

From what I've read a No CD patch should clear up the disc 1,2,3 issue. I'm DLing the torrent now and will let ya'all know how it goes once I'm done. (In the meanwhile, should anyone want to beat me to the punch, let us know how it goes!)

OK, it just finished DLing, and it installed no problem.
When the New / Load game screen came up, I used the numpad to move the little pointy finger up and down, and the numpad Enter key to select... and a new game started.
BTW, I did not need to install anything else. (Though that could be because I'm using the 32 bit version of XP).
I don't have time to really start playing now, as I've got to get ready for work but tonight I'll give it a solid go, to see if I get that Disc 1,2,3 message.

I'm having the same problem with FFVII Ultima Ed. and FFVIII for PC. Downloads/installs fine but when I try to run the game it don't recognize keyboard input. I've tried two separate keyboards, really hope its not a logger.
I'm still seeding the torrents but I've uninstalled the games since its not working anyway. At least until I find a fix somewhere.

then i run the game, and click on new game.
then i watch the long intro,
but then the screen goes black at the end of the intro where on the ps1 version the cutscene graphics turn into the game graphics.
ive tried altering the graphics settings, but that doesnt help.

For those of you who are having issues with the game control layout I suggest downloading and installing AutoHotkey (www.autohotkey.com). Setup the controls as you wish, it can emulate a joypad and you can bind whatever keys you want to whatever you want.

Okay, for those of you getting the black screen at the beginning of the game, uninstall divx/xvid codecs. the game thinks your avi's are now divx codec and cannot read it right. they are mpeg2 avi's but the game goes retarded if you have divx/xvid codecs. fear not, you can still catch your porn in divx if you have a VLC player. it doesn't require codec downloads, and is super user-friendly! And, you can play ff7 now! hurray!

I've gotten to the fight with Rufus right before you leave the Shinra building in the beginning of the game. It lets you go to menu and edit materia and so forth, but when it is done it say "press start to continue"..

great torrent, i just finished destroying the first reactor and its working fine. the only issue i have had so far was the audio cutting out durring certain sceens, but that isnt a big concern for me. also im on windows vista and its working fine so im not sure whats wrong for the other people who are on vista.

So far runs great, near complete and only had 1 CTD at "mythril mine", most movies don't play sound, I can live with that. The graphics are horrible from psx version. Wish I could render at full detail and resolution instead of using the default.

So i'm having a very interesting problem with the installation of this game. In the middle of setup, i get an error about a corrupted file.
So, the obvious solution would've been to just download it again...and I did, multiple times, getting the same error each time. But the weird part is that each time I restart the computer and try installing again, the original corrupted file installs fine, but another file is corrupted.

So I found out a way to make this game work when u have a black screen at the beginning after the cinematic and the train. You'll still see the text "Follow me, newcomer" just move forward til u start the battle with those 2 guard and it will load up the battle and after that the game should work I've had no problems with the exception of a few graphic glitches

Just downloaded and installed. Works perfectly! Zero problems. If you're running this on a laptop, you dont need a "joypad", you just need a USB keyboard because the keys are mapped to the numpad by default and as im sure you know...laptops dont have numpads.

So, I downloaded this 3 days ago. I run windows vista 64 bit. I also have a laptop. This game works like a dream. No problems. Ran smoothly the first time. The only issue with the laptops is if you dont have a number pad, which mine does. But u can pick up a usb num pad for pretty cheap if you want to play on your laptop, or use a game controller if you already have one.
Once you are playing you can go into the menu and change the configuration in the game itself and it will save the settings thereafter.

Okay, downloaded it, installed it, the install stopped at finalizing installment. It just stopped. So I tried playing the game, it worked up till the new game/continue screen. I click new game and it just fails. Black screen. So I did that whole Square sof inc bullshit, now it wont even load the game, I get a black screen for 3 secs and it stops...and closes.

Do not get Ultima Edition. It\'s a pirated and modified copy of the original game. For your sake, use this (proper) release above torrent allows you to apply patches and use mods. Without these, the game is crappy looking and unstable.

Here is one for you guys...in the link that was provided for all these different patches, the patch 5b(which is suppose to make all characters look the same), I cannot for the life of me find the patches in the folder. There are none. Only NPC RP v0.6 and lgptools, along with bunch of .jpg, readme file and two .dll files. Anyone has the same problem? Not really sure how to proceed further on this one.

So the game works fine, but I've done the motorcycle minigame and killed the boss a bajillion times... every time I get to the part where you split up to meet back in Kalm, the game crashes, as if the world map won't load. Anyone have any similar problems or know of a way to fix this?

uhm, yeah, so I'm new here, so please bare with me... So having problems patches and the game installation and other stuff right... Why dont you just try download a program called epsxe. Simply use the Numeric+arrow keys...

Problems with sound disappearing from time to time (specially in movie scenes) = BUG. simply let the sequence end and the sound will come back....
Problems with game asking for discs and stuff? = UR AND IDIOT!
simple way= download the torrent then u will have 3 simple files (excluding the text file) simply run the only file that can be runned the SETUP.EXE file at the end select to open the config application, edit the stuff u want and run the game... I have tested this torrent on a W7 x32 and x64 laptops and on a XP computer NUMBER OF ERRORS = 0
No need to mount images, burn files on a CD or something else... it couldnt be easier... simply run a file... damn

RUN the game on COMPATIBILITY MODE WINDOWS XP SP1!!
3rd solution:
RUN the game on compatibility mode WINDOWS 98 (Works most of the time)
4th and last solution:
set the quality down. go to final fantasy's own settings (config application) and change the display resolution 640 * 480 (quarter screen) should do it. then got to properties in the game icon on THE DESKTOP!!.in compatibility mark run with 640 * 480 screen resolution, disable visual themes and desktop composition
1 of those 4 should work....

I'm playing from a Windows 7 laptop, the keyboard isn't an issue so far as I installed the patch. I've used the tips here and from googling and tried playing in different compatibility modes, changing the install location, deleting the movies file, getting rid of divx and codecs (I still have the xvid codec as my xvid files open, but despite best efforts can't figure out how to get rid of this)...
The game starts, I select New Game, then black screen. I see a few people have this problem.
Can anyone help? I see some people have used on a Windows 7 laptop sucessfully, but I'm about to give up and download an emulator...

i figured out how to get pass the yuffie glitch without the chocobe patch or any downloading of other files...check this!
when you recruit yuffie the game freezez right?
well jus before you fight her, go into menu then configuration, turn both the music and sound down to zero and it will work 100%everytime

Seems to be working fine, i do have an issue with the audio cutting out randomly, but as i have played the game several times allready it isnt really a big deal, also for those having trouble with controls on the laptop, there is a config option in game and you can set the controls to your liking, i set movement to w,a,s,d menu as f ok as enter and cancel as right sift, feels comfortable and works just fine. the graphics arent the best but it isnt horrible, just a bit blotchy but lets be honest the game never looked that amazing in the first place, it was a ps1 title after all. im running it on windows 7 and aside from the the audio cutting out randomly everynow and then it has been running just fine. i am a bit curious about the mods and what they do some more info on those would be appreciated, but i think i read i cant do it on the ultima edition anyway and i probably wont be starting the game all over again anytime soon with another version, huge thanks to the uploader, the game holds a lot great memories for me and many others, truly one of the best RPG titles ever made and im glad i get to relive it all over again, keep up the great work!

The Ultima Edition is basically FF7 PC with some out of date mods. What you want to do is download a more recent modpack, because this one is from 2008.
First, download the original PC version, then search for "Final Fantasy VII Remix v2.5.1 Installer". It's 1.7 gigs and it contains all the best community mods and fixes all in one.

Thanks for putting up this torrent. Been looking for FF7 PC for a while now. But i'm experiencing something with the game and it's pretty serious. I can't seem to get Yuffie to go into my party. Everytime I fight her at Junon Forest Area, after beating her, the game crashes. So anyone please help me. Would reinstalling the game fix it? If I did reinstall it, would my saved data be lost and I'd have to play right from scratch?

For anyone having crashes after battling Yuffie, just run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 98.

For using your keyboard do this, First make sure FFVII is not running. Then, go to the Game folder. You'll see a "Goodies" folder. Open that. Open the file "FFVII Patches.RAR". Inside that, open "FFVII Official Patches.rar". You'll find a file called "Numeric Keypad Patch.zip". UnZip that to find a single file called "ff7input.cfg". Extract this file into your game folder.
Now run FFVII. It should work!
Note: You'll need WinRAR or a similar app to open RAR files

Got it working great - and added the keyboard settings correctly. Now I am wondering exactly what all the controls are?
I thought I had it figured out - enter for ok, arrows for movement, space for back, and escape to name someone... but I just reached the part where you have to do squats. What is the switch key? Are there any others I'm missing?
