Description:

A fully-functional WinPE (Windows XP SP2) + Linux (Slax-6) live CD/DVD ISO. Comes w/ AdAware SE + McAfee AV + ClamAV + SpywareDoctor updated as of 29-Dec-08, Windows Explorer, SmartDriverBackup, PCITREE, FoxIt PDF Reader, FileZilla FTP Client, Ghost 8, UltraVNC, Partition Magic 8, CHNTPW (now Vista-compatible), WIPECMOS, MEMTEST, the IBM/Seagate/WD hdrive diagnostics, etc. Boots to WinPE by default. Download README-HAWKPE.TXT or HAWKPE-CHANGES.TXT in advance, for details about the package. What *is* WinPE, you say ?!? WinPE is a limited version of Windows XP, which boots and operates from a CD, DVD, or USB thumb drive. WinPE doesn't work quite as well as normal Windows XP/2K3/Vista, that is, (for example) it doesn't do wireless or multimedia, but WinPE has *all* of the capabilities you'll need prepare and repair your PCs. Let's say your PC has been overwhelmed by malware or the PC has crashed and Windows won't boot any more. Armed with a copy of HawkPE, you *may* be able to: repair the issue that causes the boot failure (replace a broken registry with a backup copy), transfer your data to a USB external drive in anticipation of reinstalling Windows, remove a forgotten Windows login password, or clean the malware infestation (among other things.) OTOH, if you have a new PC and want to give it a custom configuration beyond the conventional single hard disk partition (like yours truly !), then you can boot HawkPE to pre-initialize the PC as desired, prior to running the OS installer. From the HawkPE main menu, you will also have direct access to a suite of excellent utilities for identifying hardware problems, recovering data, and initializing your PC in preparation of a new operating system. For those who've been asking, there's now a procedure to transfer HAWKPE to a USB thumb drive and make it bootable, along w/ other additions to the HAWKPE-CHANGES & README-HAWKPE text files ! Slax is an excellent example of a portable Linux, which comes w/ Firefox-2+Flash-9, KDE's KOffice suite, multimedia goodies, and the latest K3B CD/DVD burning application. So with a USB thumb drive and your HAWKPE CD/DVD, you can carry a multimedia-enabled computer system, with you at all times. Enjoy.... As a recap, here's the most up-to-date inventory of what's on the disc: A2Hijack AdAware SE Pro AusLogic Defrag AutoRuns (!! from SysInternals !!) Broadcom 44xx-NIC Drivers Broadcom Extreme-NIC Drivers Change NT/2K/XP/2K3/Vista Passwords Clamwin AV CPUZ Darik's Boot and Nuke Driver Genius Filezilla FoxIt PDF Reader Ghost 8 HWPnP IBM/Hitachi Disk Fitness Test Intel-10-100-1000MHz NIC Drivers Intel-810 Display Drivers Intel-Extreme Display Drivers Microscope 2005 McAfee AV Scanner Memtest86 MemtestPlus MHDD Freeware Hard Drive Repair/Analysis Utility NSSI nVidia Display Drivers Partition Magic 8 PCITree PowerDefragmenter PuTTY Python Sala Password Renew-Beta Samsung HUTIL [2.10] Hard Drive Diagnostic SeaTools (Seagate/Maxtor) Drive Diagnostics Smart Driver Backup TFTPD32 Treesize Pro UltraVNC ViewCHM Vista Recovery System (New for #42 DVD Edition) WCPUID Western Digital Drive Diagnostics 5 Windows File Explorer WinRAR ** From HAWKPE-CHANGES ************************************************ 4-Jan-09 - Changes to HAWKPE-42 from HAWKPE-41: ** Updated BartPE/WinPE w/ the latest McAfee, AdAware, and ClamWin defs, somewhere around 29-Dec to 4-Jan. Removed Norton Security Scan bec the current one needs some custom programming, before it can be restored to the collection. Hopefully, next time out. ** Added the Vista Recovery System to the DVD edition. ** Replaced Ghost 8 executables w/ Ghost 11 executables. Ghost 11 is probably the last cmd-line based Ghost (from 2007) that can make Vista NTFS partitions. ** Have changed the archiver to 7-Zip from WinRAR, for a free archiver solution that even newbies can obtain. Get the utility from http://www.7-zip.org/download.html ******************************** Notes ******************************** It appears that BTS Driver Mass Storage Pack, while part of the system, wasn't working at all. I was trying to add additional BTS drivers when this was encountered. As always, I got feedback from HawkPE users, which made me curious and here we are. Had hoped to add other things to this update, but there was no time to evaluate anything beyond the Vista Recovery System. This is the official Microsoft Vista recovery tool, for doing basic repairs of broken Vista installations. I haven't had the opportunity to use this from the disc, but I have used it directly from Vista systems using [F5] at boot time. When you launch the 'Vista Recovery System' menu pick, you will see a prompt: 'Press any key to boot from CD or DVD'. Press a key to actually launch the system, otherwise just like a Windows boot CD/DVD, it will launch the OS on the hard drive. C'ya next time. :-- The Hawk --: ========================================================== 4-Jan-09 == PS: Download *ALL* components in order to use HAWKPE.... PPS: Better than UBCD, better than Hiren's CD. This is a true Swiss Army knife for repairing and setting up PCs. ** Snapshots: ** The HawkPE boot screen: http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll101/greyhawk516/HawkPE-42-Boot-480.png The HawkPE/WinPE screen: http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll101/greyhawk516/HawkPE-42-BartPE-480.png

Awesome job. I got this on a 4 gig flash drive so I find it very useful when I'm on different computers. One question though and that is it possible for me to update Slax with the updated core modules? I tried but I keep getting errors on bootup. It worked fine with the modules that come on the disc but I don't see why it wouldn't work with an update. I do see though that you have some proprietary modules specifically for your HawkPE release are these there to help the boot process or is there a little bit of code i need to change somewhere?

preludexl (2009-01-11)

as always thanks for the update. can i request spybot and malwarebytes programs be included in the next release? i ran hiren's hawk 41 and neither one was able to fix my laptop that was hijacked with an insipidous program that hijacked my web browsers (both IE and Mozilla). Registries were cleaned, XP was repaired installed, etc. Only thing that finally fixed it was I removed the drive and scanned it with both the mentioned programs that removed all traces of it. I didnt keep track of what it was exactly but it fixed it. Some sort of TDSS variants.

preludexl (2009-01-11)

oh yes, i ran smitfraud, adaware, ccleaner, spyware doctor, and a few others too; pretty much all the crap on Hiren's didnt do squat; it was more confusing navigating to the different programs than anything. to top it off, some programs are avalable in dos and some are only in windows. what a waste. crappies program ever. my laptop came with mcafee enterprise installed. didnt do diddly.

Hi guys,
I am a newby; your torrent seems to be great and I downloaded it but --pardon my lack of knowledge-- in what format are the files? because it says file type: file001 (002, 003) What soft I need to open it? Thanks!

r0dietrich (2009-01-13)

Have been trying everything to burn this. does not seem to work. am I doing something incorrect. tried easy cd creater as well as nero

1morelia (2009-01-17)

Hey guys (Hawk, Preludexl, anybody) I need some help please. No software recognize the file type (file 001,002,003) how do I burn it? am I doing something wrong? I will appreciate it :-)

saberfuerza78 (2009-01-17)

@1morelia
Rather than tell you, I'll let you figure it out. You'll notice that the file extension before the 001, 0002, etc. is .7z . Go to google.com, and search ".7z extension".
@r0dietrich
Have you tried ImgBurn?

saberfuerza78 (2009-01-17)

And thanks greyhawk3.

@ SaberFuerza78
Gracias! You were right. It was really nice & wise of you . . . si un hombre tiene hambre, no le des un pescado, enseƱalo a pescar.
Thanks.

1morelia: that's usually a winrar file. after renaming the first file with the .rar extension (or a couple more, i dont know why some ppl do that with rar files, but most of us have seen them...usually with game files, like command and conquer), those numbered ones usually will be unrared withe the rest. those defintely are not a 7zip format. i usually do a cmd and then rename those files individually to .rar file extensions, and keep naming them and renumbering, until it starts to unrar the whole thing.
Hawk: thanks for the reply. I hear you about the restore thing. I hate doing it myself, but usually when they want all their settings, etc. Not much I can do in restoring that.
I find a trusty little external enclosure goes a long way sometimes. I have yet to try the geek squads mri. might give it a try, one day. :) will look forward to the next 43 release. I think it might be helpful to make a guide on using Hawkpe. It's quite powerful and even I havent really fully utilized all the tools.
Please please dont add stupid programs in there like Hiren's, just for the sake of having a lot of programs. What a nightmare it is to find anything on that stupid thing.

DinsdalePiranha (2009-01-27)

@ preludexl:
The .001, .002 etc. naming convention comes from back in the DOS/Win 3.1 days around the time ARJ was the popular format. Imagine it: You've got 7+3 file names and an *entire CD* of data to archive in 15MB chunks (or whatever the standard was).
Just associate .001 with your archiver of choice.

i am having trouble using the clamwin in this... it gives me weird errors. when i googled it, some bartpe users said that the ramdisk is too small for the clamwin to work. anybody else having this problem, or am i just missing something?

Quad-Damage (2009-02-03)

I love this CD, I wish there was a way to add custom network drivers, I use this cd to boot with network boot for ghost 11. Is there a way to add the Lan Driver Packets, so i can net boot into almost any computer. I would be great to add on to a new version. Or make a exe or file for adding network drivers to the current cd with a iso editor or something.
Thanks love your CD

on my 8 GB USB Stick.... But it couldn't install.
So to all users that own USB sticks >4GB
Don't download unless you want to partition
your USB drives

FirenXe (2009-08-02)

where has greyhawk gone? ...... :(

eternale12003 (2009-08-21)

I booted the cd and dvd version just to test it, when I go through bartspe/winpe it's starts to load shows the windows xp screen and then a BSOD. I'm running vista nothings wrong, I was just testing the cd/dvd, anybody else have this problem.

eternale12003 (2009-08-23)

Nevermind, found the problem. It's because the BTS drivers weren't working, I have a sata drive and since the drivers weren't working BSOD popped up. Either add the drivers yourself or go in the bios and change the sata drive mode to ata or compatible.

chard0919 (2009-10-28)
