just fyi, using the mac version of VLC (free) you can play any video or sound format you ever heard of and a bunch you probably never knew existed.Plus there are free programs like Perian that let apple quicktime player play most common video/audio types.
I never convert anything on my mac. totally unnecessary.
Things need to be changed for iPod but that's true if you are on Windows or Mac
