doesn't work on my ipod (ipod touch 4th generation). when i try to drag and drop it on my device in itunes, it simply says that this file cannot be played on ipod and thus is not copied.

You can't sync it as Apple iPods and iOS devices currently do not support anything higher than 24/48 (as far as I know). You'd have to convert it to a lower quality copy if you want to sync it.
Or you can always just have two copies of the album in iTunes.
