The BBC discredits itself by letting such an extremist neo-con present this convoluted and biased history of finance.Anybody who does a little bit of research will find not on only grasping holes in his theories (disguised as historical facts), but horrible disregard for human life.
My jaws litteraly dropped as the "professor" literally framed Salvador Allende as a marxist, only to latter justify the terryfing dictatorship (and its thousands of murdered and tortured) of Pinochet by the fact that it led to the perfect neo-con society that suposedly became Chili after Pinochet had to wthdraw, and some neo-con therist decided to made it their Guinea-Pig.

I have not seen the series yet, but I took part in the demos in London after Allende was murdered. We demonstrated because he was a Marxist-so was I at the time. As someone said, 'Anyone who is not a Socialist before they are 30, has no heart; anyone who is still a Socialist after they are 30 has no brain.' One cannot dismiss an historian as devastating as Ferguson with a cheap appellation like 'neo-con'. One has to rebut his arguments.kophee (2011-11-25)
great quality! Thanks!gtruk9 (2011-12-20)
Of course you would get an Illuminati WTF and CFR banker view on how money just happened to become worthless paper... Not much about the creation or creature from Jekyll Island that created the Fed Reserve that Jefferson warned all of us about. Anyhow, these Machiavellians will no doubt, re-write history to justify their means to reach their ends-G-rad (2012-12-24)
So he sees Greenspan as a money provider, but he fails to connect cheap money and central planners' meddling in economy (just like monopolies given by dukes and kings) with "irrational exuberance". Enron bookkeeping practices spread to other businesses? They are being used for decades by Federal and local governments without consequences...-G-rad (2012-12-24)
Best quote: "minority of people who did own their home couldn't afford their mortgage payment" !!!If you're paying off your house - you're NOT OWNING it yet... Bank owns it! Politicians love to say that all those mortgage paying bank slaves are "home owners" - they get their votes using such tricks...

Just for the record, as dylanthomas6 says, Allende was a marxist-leninist intent of taking Chile in the same path as Cuba. It has also been established beyond doubt that he killed himself using an AK-47 Fidel Castro had given him as a present. The rest is communist propaganda.CHSZ (2013-01-03)
Have to agree with most of dylanthomas6's comment: Allende was a full blown marxist-leninist intent on taking Chile on the same path as Cuba and the USSR (who he referred to as "The Big Brother),i.e. a communist dictatorship. What has been established beyond doubt is that Allende killed himself using an AK-47 Fidel Castro had given him. The rest is pure communist propaganda.9820116 (2014-01-19)
Allende was indeed a marxist, but he never intended to turn Chile in a Cuba or an USSR. His project was called “la via chilena”, the chilean way, and the objective was to create a democratic socialist system. This is the very reason why the USSR didn’t support him. It takes a lot of bias for an historian to claim Allende wanted to emulate Fidel or establish a regime based in the sovietic. This is just badly disguised cold war propaganda taken as fact.ODBC (2014-03-08)

The left and its advocates are adept at expressing their outrage at the excesses of rightist regimes, and often point out the death count of the Pinochet regime like above.
What they of course fail to take into comparison is the loss of human life associated with leftist regimes following the 2nd world war, and that the death tolls of these, even the lesser mass murderers like Tito, dwarf that of dictators like Pinochet. (Not bothering to mention the democidal top scorers, which most of the hard left has had the sense to distance themselves from over the past twenty years).
And this above is even before considering the general loss of human liberties, rights and living standards in such beacons of progress as Cuba, Venezuela, Vietnam, et cetera.

Wikipedia attests to this. Fears of a new Castroist revolution in Chile at the time were justified. Time to revise your opinion.
