No, there is no virus. It is a false positive. No FEDERATiON release has ever contained a Virus/Trojan/RAT. Moreover, this release was cracked by me personally, so I know for certain that it is clean. I have been really patient with individuals who don't understand portable releases but I have to ask would it have killed you to take thirty seconds to run a detailed scan (which would have shown that the release neither accesses the internet, or any system files) and not sound ignorant.
Alternatively you could have read the NFO.

The CWND application commonly shows up as malware, even though its only purpose is to hide the batch files running in the background. You can confirm this through a simple Google search. However if you are paranoid, just delete the file. Game functionality will in no way be affected, it will just be less pretty.
I truly find explaining these builds to be exasperating when a single detailed scan or Google search could serve my purpose.

Anyway-this works perfectly on XP, no problems... well, avast thought there was a virus, as it does with all cracked programs, but i think that its extremely unlikely that there actually was one. Computer functions perfectly if you leave the alledged virus there, and game functions fine if you let your antivirus quarrantine it.
And with vista? i kept double clicking terran.exe and terranx.exe but the game didn't load. then for some reason my mate decided to drag a random file from the game directory into terran or terranx and suprisingly the game then ran with no hitches. bizarre eh?

This looks like a good release, but I'm having unavoidable problems on Vista. Although I'm able to run other cracked versions of this game (I would rather use this one for the 2.0 update), it crashes every time I close a window that plays one of the game "quotes".
Any advice?

Works great so far! I actually have two copies of this game somewhere, but this torrent downloaded and installed so easily I didn't bother looking for them. The title screen is graphically glitched, but the gameplay so far is perfect as far as I can see. The only thing I've noticed is that you can't alt-tab out of the game like you could on the original release, but that's a minor inconvenience.
I'm running XP by the way.

The screen goes to black and then this message pops up: "your CPU is not supported; you may continue but crashes may occur"
I hit OK and the game window closes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Works perfectly on my desktop with windows, but not as well as my laptop with 7 on it. The game would crash right after the 'cpu not supported message'. To fix this go the \ALPHA CENTAURI folder and either \LOWRES or \HIGHRES folder (depending which one you're gonna use). Open up the .ini file and under [PREFERENCES] change the ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0 to a 1. That value is at the top of the ini is a 1, but it's the bottom one under [preferences] that must be changed. The HIGHRES version crashes about 10 seconds into a game on the laptop, but runs fine on another computer. Hope that fixes things for some people.

No problems with this except the very well known cpu not supported error. Just so people know this download already has teh ini set 1 instead of 0 and it still gives me the message and crashes on both high and low res via both the exe and bat routes. Any help is much appreciated as i loved playing the original and would love to play the expansion with it. Running vista 32 bit OS.
