We Built This City is a song written by Bernie Taupin, Martin Page, Dennis Lambert,
and Peter Wolf, and originally recorded by the group Starship and released as its
debut single on August 30, 1985.
The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, best known for his longtime collaboration
with Elton John, the song features Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick on lead vocals,
and the single version reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on November
16, 1985, and also number one on the U.S.
Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933–April 21, 2003), better known by her stage
name Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil
rights activist.
Although she disliked being categorized, Simone is most associated with jazz music.
Simone recorded over 40 live and studio albums, the greatest body of her work released
between 1958 (when she made her debut with Little Girl Blue) and 1974. Her most well
known songs include My Baby Just Cares for Me, I Put a Spell on You, Four Women
I Loves You Porgy, Feeling Good, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Sinnerman, To Be Young,
Gifted and Black, Mississippi Goddam, Aint Got No, I Got Life and I Want a Little
Sugar in My Bowl.
The Everly Brothers (Don Everly, born Isaac Donald Everly February 1, 1937, Brownie,
Muhlenberg County, Kentucky and Phil Everly, born Phillip Everly, January 19, 1939,
Chicago, Illinois) are brothers and country-influenced rock and roll performers,
known for steel-string guitar playing and close harmony singing.
The Everlys are the most successful U.S. rock and roll duo on the Hot 100.
Their greatest period came between 1957 and 1964.
