When I tried to install at C:\Sword the program told me that it required 15MB of space and that there was insufficient space on C:... thats not the case. Anyone know how to fix it?

Quiksilvaguy2k5 (2009-06-23)

Hi, I have just tried to install the game and it says error, cannot install sword.cfg or something like that, can anybody help??

roryrattlehead (2009-08-09)

i have the same problem as joe dude, i think its trying to install it onto the drive i have created with daemon tools.has anybody got any idea how to fix this?????

roryrattlehead (2009-08-09)

OK, HERES FULL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO INSTALL USING DAEMON TOOLS, THIS IS HOW I GOT IT TO WORK SO I HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU:
ok,
1.extract both the broken sword RAR files
2.with daemon tools(i have lite i think its best) right click and go to 'virtual cd/dvd rom' and click 'set number of devices' then click 1
3.ok now right click daemon tools tab again and again click 'virtual cd/dvd rom' and click 'Device 0: [E:] broken sword' and click on mount image, search for your broken sword disc 2 folder and mount the image you find inside it,now do the same for disc 1 (trust me,i tried disc 1 first and got problems)
4.ok, now installation should start, just press enter for the when it says install to drive C and when it says what location to install to,installation will now begin.
5.now it will say insert disc 2,press your windows key (inbetween alt and ctrl) and right click on daemn tools click 'virtual cd/dvd rom' and unmount images, now mount broken sowrd disc 2 and click on the minimized installation on your toolbar, the screen will probably be black so press enter to resume installation.
6.it will ask to insert disc 1 again.go through the same procedure as step five and unmount the disc 2 image and then mount disc 1 image, click the installation thats minimized on your toolbar and once again if it is black press enter and let it resume installation.
7. when installation is finished (this is where i panicked) an error popped up on me,i just click the button and resumed and pressed 'play broken sword.you will get a message saying something like'INSERT CD INTO DRIVE' and your disc tray will open automatically.
8.now get a blank cd and insert into disc tray and press enter, the intro was completely black on me so i minimized the game witht he windows key and then maximized it again and the game started.
p.s. i have written this tutorial just after installation so i cant tell you if the game will work perfect further on, just make sure you mount broken sowrd image 1 when you want to play and have a blank cd inserted into drive, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Hakla (2009-08-22)

there was insufficient space on C:/
Tried to mount both disc 1,2 but still the same, have no idea how to fix it.
Tried installing it on Vista.

Mortomes (2010-01-06)

To fix the insufficient disk space problem, right-click setup.exe -> properties -> compatibility -> run this program in compatibility mode for windows 95

WackoHako (2010-01-17)

Works perfect for me........(On a older pc)
Just looking for a No-CD crack
Thanks .BONE.

Can you tell me how to make game to look better on my pc. I am not an expert in these things
When I play it the colors are all like I'm on acid. How can I make it to look normal?

prrtt6 (2010-07-13)

does this work on windows 7

Nitrus015 (2010-08-02)

Works on Windows 7, and I imagine it works on all Windows platforms using these instructions:
Not sure if it was necessary, but I copied the files from both discs into one folder. So here goes:
1. Mount CD1 using software like: Daemon Tools, PowerISO, Alcohol 120% etc...
2. Copy everything onto a folder on your hard drive.
3. Repeat the previous steps with CD 2.
4. Replace Files when copying, and merge folders if prompted.
5. Go into the dolder in which you copied the files, find the file: GAMECFIG.EXE (It won't have an Icon), right-click it, and click properties.
6. Go into the Compatibility Tab, tick EVERYTHING (Even administrative privileges), and select Windows 95.
7. Run the GAMECFIG.EXE and it will allow you to install the game wherever you want.
8. Go to http://www.scummvm.org/downloads/ and download the program for your platform.
(ScummVM is a little software for playing older LucasArts Games, Revolution Games, and other briliant adventure games of the previous century)
9. Install and run it (Or just run it if you downloaded a zipfile), click Add Game, then click Go Up until you are able to see all your drives.
10. Then just click the folders respectively until you get to the folder you chose DURING INSTALATION. (In my case it was D:\Sword, so I clicked D:\ then clicked Sword.)
11. Now click Choose. It will recognize the game and you can select some settings in the tabs above (You will need to click override, no biggie, I did this with every game I played on ScummVM) such as full screen, volume, subtitles etc.
12. When you're done adjusting, click OK, and then Start. And that's it, the game will start. No errors, no missing swordres.rif, no nothing. It will go smoothly.
Hope this was helpful, I did this myself on a Windows 7 and it works.

**** FURTHER INSTALLATION NOTICE ****
If you want speech in your game, and I'm guessing you would, another couple of steps are required:
1. Mount CD1, Right-Click it in My Computer, and click Open. Go to the folder SPEECH and copy the SPEECH.CLU . Then go to where you have installed the game e.g.: D:\Sword and open the SPEECH folder there. Paste the file you copied, overwriting the previous one, and rename it to SPEECH1.CLU .
2. Do the same with CD2 but this time rename the file to SPEECH2.CLU.
And that's it. You can run your game again.

Nitrus015 (2010-08-02)

I'm hating that there's no EDIT Button.
**** FINAL INSTALATION INSTRUCTIONS ****
Works on Windows 7, and I imagine it works on all Windows platforms using these instructions:

3. Repeat the previous steps with CD 2.
4. Replace Files when copying, and merge folders if prompted.
5. Mount CD1 again, Right-Click it in My Computer, and click Open. Go to the folder SPEECH and copy the SPEECH.CLU . Then go to where you have installed the game e.g.: D:\SwordCDsCopied and open the SPEECH folder there. Paste the file you copied, overwriting the previous one, and rename it to SPEECH1.CLU .
6. Do the same with CD2 but this time rename the file to SPEECH2.CLU. --- NO NEED TO INSTALL THE GAME ---

Cathz182 (2010-08-03)

Many thanks Nitrus - I have Windows7 too and altho I got the game to work before, the graphics were horrendous (as another user commented) - but now it's perfect, I would not have figured that out myself :)

Aidanlewis1993 (2011-02-25)

To all that got the problem:
"insufficient space on C 15mb is required"
EASY SOLUTION (no daemon tools required)
1.Insert Disc 1
2.Right click the disk drive and select open
3. Select all files (Hold Ctrl and A)
4. Select properties
5. Select compatibility tab
6. Run as Win 95
This should allow the game to install without a problem, it did for me.

Rickstar2011 (2011-04-04)

What is the serial code for the game as it didn't come with the download

leecox1000 (2011-05-13)

dont even need to install just unrar (winrar) then use (scummvm) simples.

amz321cn (2011-09-17)

ONE OF THE MOST COMPLICATED PATCH GAME EVER!!!

C.Warren44 (2011-11-18)

Nice one, loved this game years ago, cheers.

paparian (2014-03-27)

Thanx for this,
firstly i want to state my hatred for all goats ever existed,
secondly i managed to fix all glitches in graphics
on win7 by setting the Winsword.exe after the installation (without scummvm or dosbox) in windows 98 compatibility mode,
and checking ALL boxes in the compatibility tab (run in 256 colors, run in 640x480 screen resolution, disable visual themes etc).
*right click on Winsword.exepropertiescompatibility
Use plenty of saves,'cause the game crashes often.
