Don't bother with this.
No matter what you do you'll get a 1600 or 1604 error.
I haven't found a single success story of any 3G being able to be jailbroken using a custom ipsw

logic360 (2009-06-20)

^^^
using a PC

nicetree33 (2009-06-20)

yeah i just tried it too, with iphone 3G on a PC, gave me 1600 error. is it supposed to work if you are using a mac?

fducloux (2009-06-20)

hey you should try this
close iTunes, use one of the previous pwnagetool to put your phone in DFU mode, then close pwnagetool, open iTunes, crl restore, select this firmware, and wait
it did work for me! i've tested it on my mac and my pc, works perfect in both
cheers

logic360 (2009-06-20)

pwnage tool is for mac only.
if we had a mac, we wouldn't need this custom ipsw :/

logic360 (2009-06-20)

OKay!!! got it to work!!
What PC users gotta do after downloading this firmware is to get ahold of quickpwn RC3
get it here:
http://xs1.iphwn.org/releases/QuickPwnRC3.zip

then you gotta get iphone OS 2.0.2
The reasoning behind this is that you want ot use quickpwn to put it in a special DFU mode to allow itunes to install the custom IPSW. most versions of quickpwn check the firmware installed onyour phone to make sure you're not making a critical mistake, but RC3 just does its thing "blindly." this is what we want beacuse we want quickpwn to put the iphone into the "special DFU mode" that itunes will like
Manually putting the iphone in DFU mode doesn't seem to work.
so once you got everything, quickpwn RC3 and the 2.0.2 firmware, connect your iphone, and select the 3G model, then browse to where you downloaded 2.0.2 then click the next icon.
follow the instructions to put the iphone in DFU mode, once quickpwn starts "uploading the bootloader" (its not the exact phrase but something close) quickly close quickpwn.
hopefully you should see something in windows saying that drivers were installed for Device Firmware recovery. your iphone screen should be blank.
now open itunes and SHIFT-CLICK restore and select your custom IPSW. itunes should now start prepping your iphone for restore.
you'll know you did everything right if your iphone screen turns to a solid white screen. if you see the USB cable and itunes icon on the screen, you'll have to start over from the Quickpwn RC3 part.
hope I didn't confuse anyone too much, but it defintetly worked for me and I was a huge skeptic with hours of failure until I used RC3 to put the iphone in the correct DFU mode.
Once I did that everything worked great!!

logic360 (2009-06-20)

sorry!!
I missed a step!
so once you got everything, quickpwn RC3 and the 2.0.2 firmware, connect your iphone, LAUNCH QUICKPWN RC3 and select the 3G model, then browse to where you downloaded 2.0.2 then click the next icon.

WORKS PERFECT!!...the MAIN instruction is to follow is...........FOLLOW INSTRUCtions!.....
***CORRECTION TO LOGIC 360' wonderful advice!---THe Misnamed "bootloader comment"......will say "UPLOADING EXPLOIT BOOTLOADER".....its at this point, and timing is NOT TOO CRUCIAL so dont stress it!...And like LOGIC360 states(again FOLLOW DIRECS),if you mess up just start over from OFF position...his tip as far as color of screens was PERFECT too so you can use these as reference points thgroughout the short process.
ALSO---IT did not replace custom boot logo so DONT worry when afterwards you see the apple logo instead of PINEAPPLE!!!

milton007 (2009-06-20)

ID JUST LIKE TO AGAIN GIVE majoR PROPS TO LOGIC360 for his advice! It was a similar process to jailbreak a few betas ago sorta mixed with the custom firmware and i must say,LOGIC answered and wrote up an incredible post and should be spread aound blog sites with his kudos bc ALOT and i repeat ALOT of WINDOWS users are stuck hanging in the breeze waiting for a solution of our own(windows)---later ya'll----ive been fukkin with this damn custom firmware since about 9pm.est!....maybe thats why im so damn grateful for LOGIC....i hope other ppl take 10secs to post a thanks as well-its deserved!...knowledge is key!

logic360 (2009-06-20)

spread the word!!

logic360 (2009-06-20)

one more treat for you guys!
here is a special file to make your iphone vibrate twice (instead of just once) when receiving text/email/IM/mms
just overwrite the original .plist fike with this one (make sure you back up your original!!):
http://www.2shared.com/file/6381269/6a629f5b/SystemSoundVibrationPatterns.html

just drop the modded file into this folder using your favorite iphone file transfer method (ssh, diskaid, etc.)
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/

have at it!!

Blehman8 (2009-06-20)

So far logic360's ..logic hasn't worked out for me yet, but I found that I only had .NET Framework 1.1 installed on this computer.. I got 2.0.70727 from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en

and now QuickPwnRC3 runs.
