Description:

Best MP3 encoder I have ever used... an oldie but a goodie, and Xing as a company no longer exists... therefore this is VERY hard to find! DLed the installer way back in 2000, been archived since then. Enjoy, but please share the wealth and SEED SEED SEED!

The Xing MP3 encoder got a terrible reputation because early versions sacrificed a great deal of sound quality in order to achieve blazing speed. Later versions were better, but I'm not sure if this c.2000 one is. If you're committed to the MP3 format, there's really no excuse for not using LAME as your encoder these days; so much work has been put into tuning it and squeezing as much as possible out of the format.

The encoder might be of historical reference. I remember back then I found the quality of coding human speech to be terrible. But today, not as much. I guess it's because of aging, and being adjusted to hearing electronic sounds everywhere. Yet, we can go back and check.
These days some Fraunhoffer encoders, like the XP ACM, or the one included with Sound Forge, have great speed too, which wasn't the case when there were only the Radium, Blade and Lame encoders around.
