Simply unzip the folder, go into 'root' and click on the shortcut (You'll probably need to change where the shortcut points to, just point it to the hl2.exe in the same folder, but keep everything else the same)

Also, this is being uploaded on a DSL line, max upload is 384kbps - so it'll be a bit slow at first. For that reason, PLEASE seed when you're done - I'll seed as long as I can, probably a week or so.

after i am about to complete chapter 4 when i get into the elevator and it swtiches chaters console turns svar cheats from 1 to 0 and then i "disconnect" and get this message in console followed by a bunch of red text displaying it is trying to load things but ignoring and trying again

ok, heres how it goes. I open portal- it loads and brings up a console window which says:

I start a new game and as soon as the first portals in the game open the whole thing shuts down, any ideas guys?

I think my router is what is killing my download speed so if somebody could help me with my router that would be muchly appreciated. I've tried the uTorrent port checker but it said that it was blocked. I tried using port forward but it still doesn't work. please help!

I keep getting an error that it can't find gameinfo.txt, anyone know the solution?

When I open it up it goes through the valve and source load screen things, then it closes and an error message pops up that say's
console error
no permission to run "portal"
or something like that. I went to check the exact error message and it randomly started having the same error as Squirrellyone. (cannot find gameinfo.txt) it wasn't doing that a few seconds ago.

Update:
tried moving gameinfo.txt out of the scripts folder in the hl2 folder and into the hl2 folder directly. now it say's that gameinfo.txt is an invalid format

ok Squirrellyone I figured out your error. the correct GameInfo.txt is in the portal folder. I moved it to the hl2 folder and stoped getting the error.
as for me. I'm now getting the same error as before, but now its no permissions to run "hl2" instead of "portal"

when i play portal i only can play to lvl 10 when i am in the elevater to lvl 11 it say sv_cheats 0 sv_
cheats 1 and then the map close and say erro.

Oh, I fixed it... I think... I renamed the 'background1.vtf' file in root\portal\materials\console\ to 'background01.vtf' , and that fixed it,, but now there is another error telling me that some kind of 'startup' file in the same folder is missing.
And there isn't any more files who looks like they might be it.

I try running the Portal shortcut... but it just runs the Valve opening thingy and freezes up. It exits and gives me this error message saying failed to create D3D device or something... I tried turning off Steam but it did it again... any ideas?
