Early this summer BBC was here in Ystad and produced 3 films on Wallander with Kenneth Branagh as the inspector. The books they shot are "Sidetracks", " One step behind" and "Firewall".

A pretty good version, with beautiful photo and carefully selected settings all filmed on location, I couldn't find a single studio shot!
Just a shame they didn't learn how to pronounce the Swedish names - not even Wallander! - seeing as they kept them all, and in all other ways try to make this a Swedish movie with English dialogue.
A bit bizarre with English speaking polices in Swedish police uniforms, driving Swedish police cars and reading Swedish newspapers (!) - why not just subtitle the Swedish movies? Well, actually BBC showed one of these today so it seems they're doing both... :P

Besides the odd feeling of it being produced in English (i'm Swedish), this one is pretty good. Beautiful photography.
But well, if you think about it, we've had movies about the Roman Empire, about Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, Nazi Germany, etc all of them in English.
Hopefully this series will atract audiences to the Swedish Wallander movies as well.
