I live in Germany but was born and lived in America for 40 years and what I have seen as far as Docs. go whether German or USA made, are really close and the over all opinion of Germans is also close to the American point of view. I watched a couple episodes here and there on TV and never really thought much of it then. Afterwards, I decided to torrent it and see the entire series on my PC for the heck of it. Wow I'm glad I did. You need to download this and listen to it with good quality speakers or headset. The footage and sound alone are amazing, it feels like you're there. It's really captivating.

Then when everyone else was running out of men, money and resources they jumped in for the killing blow and took all the credit. In sports that's called cherry-picking. First, I don't see how saying this documentary is US propaganda is the same as saying "USA is bad." This is a great documentary series, but I've watched it before and it does leave you with the opinion that the US fought this war alone. Most Americans actually think WWII started on Dec. 7, 1941. They have no idea Britain had been fighting virtually alone since Germany invaded Belgium, Holland and France in May 1940 or that the war actually started when the Wehrmacht invaded Poland in Sept. 1939. And most Americans (including Charles Lindberg and Henry Ford) were VEHEMENTLY opposed to joining a European conflict until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. If it hadn't been for that, the US would have sat out the war and bled the U.K., Russia, Canada and Australia dry with Lend-Lease. If you disagree, just go on the internet and see how many companies were HAPPY to do business with Hitler, even after the US joined the conflict. Could the rest of us have won the war without the United States? No, unfortunately not. But the US couldn't have won the war without the rest of the Allies either. Still, once they did join, most Americans fought with bravery and honour, volunteering in the hundreds of thousands to go and fight and die to liberate countries they had never heard of before 1941. Many sacrificed their lives to save people they had never met. They knew their chances of survival and they went anyway. And none of that has anything to do with the fact that this documentary series is pretty jingoistic. If you want a balanced view, there are MANY BBC documentaries about the war that are much more balanced. All of that said, WWII in HD is still a very well crafted series and if you want to know about the US contribution to the war, it's a great place to start.

In deed, American had only two freedom wars, Independence and 2ª war (part of it) because they look forward to reconstruction Europe after War (Marshall Plan ) and send the bill to Germans (thats fair enough) but they want to get profit and at same time keep the eyes at Moscow.

But how can someone at present days and so much realy balance information can´t read or see the facts as they truly were?
I had been at Postdam at the very same room were back to 1945 Stalin, Churchill, and Truman just draw the line of borders to get new two Super Powers.

So was heroes who fought second war not just american and they certainly were not the largest army or the ones who lost more lives at the name of freedom.

Furthermore, we are losing these people at a tremendous rate and their stories need to be told. If you don't like how this is slanted (I don't know I haven't watched it yet) go buy a fucking book that fits your view point, I'm sure you can find one.

This series is totally worth watching even for the amazing footage alone. Cleaning up the film with modern techniques makes certain scenes so much more present and real.
If anyone is looking for a more comprehensive and balanced look, which seems to be the hot button topic in some of the semi-literate bitching I just read above, you should check out PBS's "The War" from 2007. It's still very much a documentary about the American experience during the war, but any self-congratulation is well tempered by some of the darker aspects of America's involvement. It covers everything from costly and avoidable military mistakes to abhorrent policies at home such as the Japanese internment camps. It also goes a long way to explain the American mentality behind the decision to stay out of the war as long as we did. (I say we, but I was born in 1979. I didn't have an opinion in 1939. In fact, the vast majority of people living today didn't either.)

So look stupid, for all the good england did, you may as well have sat out the rest of the war because the USA supplied the vast number of troops, equipment, wealth and, in the end, the most casualties other than the axis enemies and the Russians.
